Hello,

I am 41 and was told Friday I have FLD from my cholesterol. My numbers have been over 350 for at least 12 years.

Trigliserides are high as well and have been despite total diet change.

This past spring I started taking a Herbal diet supplement which dropped a good 10 pounds in a month. I totally changed my food intake cutting out all fast food and limiting take out to 1-3 x's a mo. I was hovering 162-168 and 5' 4 after 5 children and 4 c-sections (2 were insulin gd). I stopped taking it after some medical concerns that had been ongoing progressed. The last 2-3months I have continued to lose and now weigh 131 and dropping.

Two weeks ago I was told I have a very thick uterine wall and a small cyst on my ovary. Now fatty liver disease( from US looking for reason for vomiting and pressure) I have had nausea and vomiting for 5 weeks, numbness in my foot and low back pain all day and worse when I lay down( pressure, burning and numbness in legs.) I am seeking an MRI this week if they will approve.

My concern is my BP has begun to climb as well I suspect MS( have multiple symptoms) or Cancer.

Can they tell FLD from Cancer steming other parts of the body?

I complained of fatigue all summer but they kept telling me stress from life changes. I could tell the difference when the fatigue hit and knew it wasn't depression.

I have been unable to work due to ongoing aches, pains, flus and illnesses and really want to find what is causing all of this. The only abnormal tests I have are cholesterol and Vit D is low.

Any thoughts or experiences on this?

Ty

As far as I know they can tell the difference through testing. The only real way to know if you have fatty liver disease is to have a liver biopsy done. They will be able to tell from that if you have it and how bad it is. That is what I had to do. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I get sick on a regular basis, I am always tired, I get weak and confused, my cholorestrol is high all of the tests are, and I am diabetic. I also changed my diet and am not getting better. I am hear for you if you want to talk. I wish you well.

Abadhemi,

They can tell the difference between Fatty Liver and Cancer where the liver is concerned. But to rule out Cancer in other parts of the body they would have to look every where.

Fatty Liver and Liver Cancer Look different on US.

They can also tell the severity if the disease with CT scan and MRI. A biopsy gives Cellular proof and can make The diagnosis on the actual cause of damage , Fatty Liver , Hepatitis, Cirrhosis and numerous other causes.

The nausea and Fatigue are a big part of the disease But many patients can Overcome the disease. Only a small portion of patients develop more serious liver disease.

Welcome

Gail

Not sure what that is. Where is it sold?

Since my posting I have found out that I also officially have(which I knew bf confirmed):

BP issues

Diabetes

Lipids over 380 never hit this high gen 350 last 12 years (LDL-p was insanely high at 3500)Good CH was 19! Down by 8-10 points

= Metabolic Syndrome.. I weigh 132 pounds (lost 34 6mo ago and changed diet and it gets worse??)Lipid doc says I am a walking heart attack/stroke.. As if I wasn't already thinking it was an issue though glad someone believes me..

MRI lumbar last week shows Facet Disease w/ some spurring and affects to my sacroiliac joint.

Still researching but with my 2 shoulder injury's, knee, hip joint rolling, ankles etc.. I am thinking I have some sort of joint dysfunction. I am only in my 40's..

So far all neuro tests were neg inc hep. (See him today to review MRI)

Gastro neg.

Now if I can only convince them to do a bone density and full MRI. So far I have only had an US on my Liver.

My concern is: They are putting me on 3 lipid drugs and BP meds as well i take Gabapentin(nerve blocker) for back. Some days my liver is so swollen i can feel it in my back and ribs(feels like chest pains only on the rt). The lipid meds are going to waste my muscles and possibly my liver(I know I need something). I tried the herbals before this the last few months nothing worked.

I was reading last night on Metabolic Diseases that affect muscles, liver and kidneys but they are pretty rare. That said with metabolic, weight and age I am in the 2% of people who are not overweight with this..

Thoughts.. Suggestions?

Abadhemi,

They are seeing more and more patients that are not overweight.

Family History & Metabolic Syndrome are much stronger risk factors.

Getting your Cholesterol and diabetes under control are the main treatments and do help.

Fatty Liver is reversible in most patients. But it takes time and tons of hard work. For those of us that do progress careful healthy living can delay further damage. Lipid meds are common treatment and the risk are less than the risk of further damage to your liver with out them.Herbals seldom work because They are unregulated the manufactures can put anything in them with out putting it the labels , You also never know for certain how much of any thing is actually in the bottle. Recent studies have shown that Milk Thistle (believed to reduced inflammation actually does not help at all.

If you have diabetes strict control usually helps the nausea.Gastroparesis is a common complication of diabetes and causes severe nausea. Eating small frequent meals also helps. It's important to maintain your nutrition so try some of the diabetic shakes when you can't eat. I often freeze them for a frozen yogurt type of consistency.

Rapid weight loss is hard on the liver also.
