Hi every body. I hope i am posting in the right place. I'm new here lol. I'm a 29 yr old f. Recently diagnosed with a fatty liver by means of ultrasound. I also had bloodwork done, which all came back normal. About 6 weeks ago i had a dull ache around liver area after a wknd of binge drinking. I have been drinking (binging) on and off for 10 years. Terrible i know. I am also about 50 lbs overweight. Since my diagnosis 6 wks ago i have not had a drop of alcohol, and have lost a stone in weight from healthy eating and exercise. I still get the occasional ache. Which is annoying, and i am usually tired. In may last year i had my gallbladder out due to stones. In my ultrasound back then my liver was noted as normal. So i figure the fatty liver is in its early stages.. Im hoping if i had anything worse they would of seen it when removing gallbladder?? Anyways, just hear to meet ppl with same problems. I am concerned i wont be able to reverse this disease. My doc is confident in 12months i should be fine. I wish i had his optimism!!

I know this can be scary But if you stay away from ALL alcohol you have a good chance of being fine.

Alcohol has it's own type of Fatty Liver that usually heals when the alcohol is removed. Even those with non alcoholic fatty liver have a good chance of living a normal life.

The most important thing is to be as healthy as possible.

Welcome to the group. If no one's around here you are welcome to join us at the Cirrhosis group.

shonz,

I'm glad you're feeling better. I can't promise that the ache will ever stop completely But I can tell you that I have had many pain free days. In the early years when I was compensated I had many "good" days , So I wolf have to assume that since you don't have Cirrhosis the same is possible for you as long as the Fatty Liver doesn't progress.

Everyone is different and I know many Liver patients that have never had any pain.

i am doing Ok . i had 6 liters of fluid removed this week so that relieves some of the abdominal pressure.

hang in there you are doing so well.

Thanks again Gail, Im sorry to hear of your complications. Will you be able to live with these? Or will a transplant be in your future? Ive heard that if they catch cirrhosis early enough it isnt a death sentence.. I honestly thought after losing weight and stopping alcohol these pains would of gone by now! Dizzy I do hope that i have been able to save my liver! Do many people go on to cirrhosis? even if they remove the cause? I have heard so many conflicting stories..

shonz,

I will eventually need a transplant. The damage to my liver was already extensive when they found out what was wrong.

Most people do not progress to Cirrhosis only about 10%

Even if you do progress to Cirrhosis only a small percentage progress to Liver Failure. Removing the cause does help for many. Especially those that have alcohol induced Fatty Liver.

Many times Cirrhosis is found during a autopsy in patients that never had any symptoms. I had a Aunt that died from lung cancer a couple of years ago. Near the time of her death they found she also had cirrhosis she had never had a symptom or complication . Her liver continue to function normally until her death.

No one knows why some people get worse and others don't. You're doing the right things and that is all you can do.

Hello Gail, sorry it has been awhile. Ive been sick of late. Doc is saying it was stress and anxiety! Who knows. I had a checkup ultrasound on my liver and i have the all clear now. it came back normal. no more fatty liver. so my 3 months of hard work paid off. ive had 4 wines in 3 months and dropped 30lbs. so i feel good. i hope i can maintain this up forever! x
