I have fatty liver as well, I was diagnosed 6 months ago. The only thing I can tell you is take this very serious and as a warning, I almost completely stop drinking, I probably drank 7 occasions since Dec 2012 but no more than 3 standard drinks. My advise to you, if you want to ever drink again, then you have to drink VERY moderately, no more than 3 drinks once in a while....

Hi Rob,

I was too diagnosed with diffuse fatty liver back in March 2013. At the time of diagnosis, my ALT 79, AST 62 and my TG was 475 along with high Uric Acid level. At first, I thought fatty liver meant I was overweight and that my liver had some fat around it... well... as you probably did it your self(self diagnosis and research) that fatty liver is a chronic disease. I always thought I was too young to have health problems until this moment.

With this urgency, I started to monitor ...

My liver specialist said for someone who doesn't drink, a few drinks seems to help reduce the numbers but he said he can't tell someone who already drinks that because they will drink even more and it does more harm for them. I have very high enzyme numbers and right now, he (liver specialist) put me on 800 (I'm taking 1,000 as it is cheaper than two 400s) of vitamin e. He says it helps the liver. Well, it also can be harmful for the heart which runs in my family. I agree with LadyIJ, you need t...

Good day all,
A question for all to ponder and a reply with any knowledge on the subject you may have would be welcome. To the best of your knowledge,is it common for people with liver disease to have problems with their cholesterol levels, and if so, in which direction? I ask because, from what I understand, the liver is the organ that produces and distributes cholesterol throughout and out of the body. As I mentioned before, I had a fasting cholesterol test done at a lab back in early Februar...

Hi Folks,

Hope you're all having a Happy Easter/Passover? Quick question. Which is easier on your liver for pain relief, ibuprofen, or tylenol? I've had a bad sore throat for about a week and my pharmacist said ibrupofen is preferable for someone with a compromised liver, because it's metabolized through the kidneys, whereas acetaminophen is processed via the liver?

Thanks in advance,

Hi, I have similar symptoms with discomfort in your upper right stomach and mild nausea. Based on my understanding and words from my hepatologist, these are normal symptoms of fatty liver/Steatohepatitis. Inflammation of liver can cause such a symptoms. Since i've been in healthy diet, my discomfort has lessen, i suspect nausea is from lack of intake of calories as i've been on 1500 calorie diet on week days and 2000 on weekend with zero alcohol.

keep us posted on your result of the blood te...

Hi, I'm not a doctor but I like to share myexperience as my ALT numbers are identically same as yours (65) when i went in for annul physical and deemed diagnosed with diffuse fatty liver/Steatohepatitis. I was recommended to discontinue consumption of alcohol and limit calorie intake and to loose weight. Avoid certain food types and concentrate on veggie, fruit diet and started to take Omega-3 as supplement.

You cannot reverse fatty liver disease. All these diets or foot changes do is make it easier perhaps for your liver to function if it is still in the earlier stages. I just watched my proteins and ate lots of fruits and vegetables for a long time, and my MELD stayed quite low. Then the fruit started to cause issues, so I had to stop that for a while. Out of nowhere I got sick and went to the hospital. MELD has jumped and lots of problems. I have not been able to work for 4 months, and am...

Hepatic encephalopathy is what happens when the body doesn't get rid of adequate waste, and the ammonia builds up in the system. It breaks the blood/brain barrier. It has four levels, Grades 1 through 4, depending on its severity. I just went through my 5th round of it a couple weeks ago. I was hospitalized for high creatnine and extremely low blood pressure couples with a bad buildup of ascites. I wasn't sure where I was, very bab balance, and I tend to get hostile sometimes. It is very...

Hi Mamasmurf, I was diagnosed last year. I had a biopsy done to see what stage it's at. He called it stage 1 but said there is some scarring which usually doesn't happen till a later stage. Right now my gastro doc wants me to take 800 mg of vitamin E. I'm taking 1000 since it's cheaper than two four hundred. I go back in a few months for blood work to see if it's gotten any better. What stage is yours at?...

Tuco - let us know what it does to your liver enzymes. What they are talking about is lecithin - it's in the egg yolk. I take cholestrol medication and I still am having two eggs almost every day and it's fine - I think balance is a better approach - cut carbs - especially WHITE CARBS, cut sugar and saturated fat. I recommend MyFitnessPal.com
exercise and lots of water, good veggies, high quality protein LOW SODIUM. I know it's a lot to take in!...
