I misspoke, sorry, I was thinking of it being the opposite of a type of tumor that doesn't occur at rest but only with movement.

And yes, you haven't been (nor have I been)through a placebo controlled double blind study, like most medical facts in the world. My theory that in my case my tremor went away after 30 years a few months after I corrected a lifetime deficiency of vitamin D may simply be a coincidence, but it's been 4 years now. I haven't heard of anyone with essential tremor that dissappeared for years, perhaps you have.

So I certainly hope that you continue to have little or no tremor but yes, noone can prove what the cause is.

Of course, there are many people with essential tremor, and most of them have vitamin D insufficiency. Wouldn't it be great if everyone got corrected, not for the tremor but for the other major deliterious conditions caused by insufficient vitamin D, and reports started circulating that it improved or abolished the tremor? Just speculation, granted.

I don't know of any way the ET would affect the vitamin D level. However many people need a very major dose of vitamin D daily to get the level up. I can tell you that 2000 units a day isn't enough for most people in this country.

Yes, with me although I guess it would still be called a theory, the ET of several decades ended 100% a few months after the vitamin D deficiency was treated. I don't think it's a coincidence. But can't find any studies.

I have a similar situation like you but my tremor is about ten years. I recently take vitamin D for vitamin D insufficiency. Now it is my second three month vitamin D taking. In first 3 months my vitamin D level increase from 14 to 17. My doctor says this level is still low. After 3 month vitamin D taking my tremor was not improved but now at beginning of 3 month vitamin D taking my tremor is getting better my wife says. I would like to know when your tremor got better after vitamin D taking. If this really works, I will recommend my brother and sister to take vitamin D for their tremor. After high dose vitamin D should I continue to take vitamin D at low dose daily for exmple at 5000 per day?

I don't take any medicine for the ET. It was never severe, my mother and her sibs had it much worse than I did.

My first vitamin D level before I started taking it was 23. I noticed an improvement when the level reached about 40. Since the level got up to 60 or more, I have not had even one episode of essential tremor. Increasing the level from 14 to 17 isn't very significant. Some people need a booster dose of vitamin D to get the level up initially. If you were to stop vitamin D after the 50,000 units, then within 3 or 4 months your level would probably be back to 14 ng. Once a person is low, they need to take vitamin D indefinitely (of course if they change their lifestyle, such as becoming a lifeguard, it would modify the amount of vitamin D they need to take.

It is significant that your tremor may be getting better after 3 months even though your level is not yet over 40 ot 60 ng. Once the level is good, 5000 units a day is a common dose that's needed, although some people need more - with the benefit of every 6 month blood levels to monitor it. (Insurance should always pay for it like any other blood test.)

I don't think I mentioned initially that not only did I have ET much of my life, but I am an internal medicine doctor who has done 6000 vitamin D levels on patients since 2005; however becase ET is not that common, I've never had a patient tell me they had it who I've treated with vitamin D.

By the way, if someone has ET and a low vitamin D, the primary reason for correcting the level is to avoid or improve osteoporosis. Improvement of ET is an added bonus.

By the way, stoptremor would be only the second case (after myself) that I've heard of with improvement of the ET with vitamin D, however like I said I don't know anyone with ET who has taken a significant dose of ET.

My sister, brother and aunt also have tremor. I am suggesting them to check the vitamin D then take vitamin D if vitamin D level is low. I think that tremor is genetic problem of our family. Like my grandfather and my father all of them start to have tremor around 50s. Then symptom becomes worse. If tremor is caused by vitamin D insufficiency, taking enough vitamin D will be better choice than DBS I am currently thinking about. As what you did I will continue to take vitamin D at relatively low dose after second 3 month.
