Hi and welcome to the group. I do not have issues with swallowing but I have a constent flicking of my tongue and a jaw tremor. I also have issues with my voice alot. But I know for a fact that ET has effects on muscle do to nerves. So I dont realy see why you couldnt have problems swallowing. What does your neurologist say.

Welcome and good luck

Hi, I'm Dennis and I have suffered with Essential Tremors for all of my aware life. Some of my mother's brothers have it and so did her mother. I did not know that this condition existed until about 20 years ago when I was seeing a neurologist for another problem and she told me I had Familial Tremors. I now know that is the same as Essential tremors. I have been through all kinds of drug therapy's since then but none have really done much to relieve the shakiness. I am just looking to talk to other's who share my corner of the world, who understand what we all go through everyday. I do have a lot I can share and hope to have the time available to check in often.

Thanks! Smile

you, my dear, sound like a familial essential tremor - the most statistically common type.

most of us have familial. You'll find good support here. Welcome...

I'm not in your statistical group....

Welcome Pinelands and Dennis!

Pinelands -- I very rarely have trouble swallowing and then it is usually liquids. I've told my docs about this and I think it happened as a result of an injury to my throat when I had surgery a few years ago but I've had doctors tell me that's crazy. So maybe I'm just crazy. (They aren't the first ones to tell me that! Tongue ) I do have trouble with my voice and my tremor affects my entire face including lips, tongue, everything.

Dennis -- I belong to that statistical group of folks like you with familial essential tremor. My paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather both had tremors. My mom has developed tremor (but that was most noticeable to me after she had a TIA a couple of years ago). I have at least one male cousin who also has tremor. There well may be others of whom I'm as yet unaware.
