Hi all

I'm 23 years old and I've had noticeable essential tremor since i was little. It is mainly in my head and hands and it gets worse under pressure. Sometimes i feel really good and i feel ok but most of the time i don't. It is hard because i try to do normal things and struggle.

Questions:

1) Do stress or muscle relaxants work against et

2) Can sleep affect et

3) i often get a very fast heart-beat after little or no movement or stress (and it makes my et bad) is this due to et at all?

4) any drugs out there that are effective and minimal side-effects?

5) any home remedies that help - yoga, strengthening little muscles (light weights), stretching .... or anything?

Any helpful advice would be well appreciated

Hi kris. I've also had my tremor since I was very little and also in my hands and head. I'm not really sure about which particular type of stress or muscle relaxants you might be asking about, I'm guessing probably relaxants in general? I am on Celexa for anxiety (stress relaxant), but it had no effect whatsoever on my et. If I get very little sleep, my tremor will usually be "flying". Question 3, I haven't had happen to me. I take Propanolol and I don't have very bad side effects from it, but it does slow my heart beat down. Also, I take it on an as needed basis. Some people are more effected by this and other medication. Usually makes them tired. In regard to Question 5, I think if you read some of the other discussions that we've been having recently, you'll see some stretching exercises that others have tried and has worked.

I am glad you've joined and asked questions. I have found the other people in the Essential Tremor group to be very open and understanding. Thanks for writing!

Shannon

Welcome Kris,

1)stress does work against et. Muscle relaxer i haven't noticed that it has.Im on a muscle relaxer for my back.

2)If you don't get enough sleep yes it does mess with ET. One of my problems not sleeping well.

3)My heart rate goes up with a attack. That something to ask your doctor.

4)Im on Topamax. I don't have any side effects.

5)Look at SHannon's advice
