I learned from another person who has ED/PRP, a way to relieve hands and feet that are cracked and painful.

For hands, use a heavy emollient, such as A&D Diaper Rash Ointment, Aquaphor, Vaseline, or Bag Balm - yes the kind farmers put on cow udders). Then put on Nitrile gloves. Some people wear them all night, but I get too warm at night and can't stand it. I wear them in the daytime from 4 hours up to all day, depending on how bad my hands feel. They fit well and I am able to do anything I need to do while wearing them. The plastic holds in the moisture and also, offers protection for sore hands. It is less painful while wearing them. At night, I let my hands breathe.

Nitrile gloves are non-latex and hypoallergenic. You can find nitrile easily by doing a web search. Many of the sites only sell by the case, but I found this one where I could buy just 2 boxes of 100 gloves @ $10 each. I chose the powder-free comfort gloves. Here is the website. http://www.uline.com/Grp_366/Nitrile-Gloves? keywords=nitrile+gloves I have no affiliation to this company and mention them only as a help to others who have painful cracked hands as I do.

I also ordered seamless cotton glove liners to wear when I have pain, but don't want to use the plastic ones. By protecting my hands. they too, will make my hands more usable and pain-free. I have sun gloves I've worn not only for sun protection, but to protect painful hands. However, they have open fingertips, and my fingertips are very tender, especially after the skin has peeled off. These gloves haven't arrived yet, so I can't give a complete report on them. I do expect it to help, because the sun gloves help. Seamless should be better still.

For feet, apply the same type of emollient as for hands, wrap feet in plastic baggies or plastic wrap. Again, many people do this at night, but it is too hot for me. I pull on socks and shoes over the plastic and wear as needed in the daytime. This helps to soften the hard, cracked skin on the soles.

After I get the seamless glove liners, I'll post about how well they work - or don't, and will give the website if they are good.

I hope this helps someone. It worked for me!

hugs, violett

This info about the gloves is wonderful. I'm going to look into getting a box or two for myself. Anything to relieve the pain!

Best,

Maya

I was glad to learn about the gloves from the PRP people, too. It has helped me so much!

It was fast shipping - only 3 days from when I ordered. Hope they help you.

I received the seamless glove liners today. They fit perfectly, and I like them. They are very light weight and perfect to wear for protection when I'm shopping or out anywhere.

When my hands crack and bleed, I need something to protect them. I've been wearing the fingerless gloves but my fingertips are so sore that they need protection too.

The URL is http://www.capitolscientific.com/estylez_ps.aspx? searchkeyword=&searchdescription=&searchmode=category&searchcatcontext=~SAFETY~SAFE-A%2fL~HAND%26ARM~GLOVES~INDUS-HD~WORK-G~SEAMK-UNCO I ordered the string-knit nylon inspection gloves @ $22.15 for a dozen. (Again, I have no affiliation with this company. I'm only putting this info here to help others who have painful, cracked hands like I do.)

I found that the nitrile gloves are better around the house and yard, because they are water-proof. I can do housework, use the computer, eat, wash dishes, anything I would normally do with my bare hands. Actually, I can do anything in the glove liners as well. It's just that they are cloth and would show stains during everyday use.

After wearing the nitrile gloves for several hours each day (with medication or Aquaphor on my hands), the skin is much softer and less painful. Strangely, the redness has lightened as well! That was a good surprise.

I hope this info is helpful.

I went to the website to order the nitrile gloves but there are several different ones. Which ones should I order? I also would like powder-free.

I've been gone overnight and just got home a little while ago, or would have answered sooner.

I got the "comfort" gloves, but think they are all probably OK> These didn't have any powder. Here is the page I ordered from. I followed their sizing instructions and the small fit me very well.

I've been so much more comfortable since getting these gloves. While i am moisturized inside the gloves, the pain is gone. Hope they work for you.

There is no rhyme or reason to this thing. I read on the PRP mail list that apple cider vinegar stops the itch. She said she carries it in a little spray bottle and sprays it on when needed. It stings at first, but the itch goes away. I haven't tried it because when I used white vinegar, it felt like it was burning me. Thought I'd pass it on, in case it might help you.

Thanks, Violet. I have apple cider vinegar but prefer to use quercetin internally. That really helps a lot.
