MDJunction to me

jayna01"My name is Jayna and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much MDJunction has meant to me. I always felt so alone before I joined in April of 2012. I felt like there wasn't anyone that really cared about me and what I was going through. I felt like there was no one that would truly listen to me in what I was feeling. Nobody was there for me. That is before I found MDJ!

I have found and met such good people on these forums. I never ever knew there were such compassionate people before MDJ. It's also nice to know that I can come here anytime and get support for what I am feeling. I feel like I have met some wonderful life long friends. It is also an outlet for me to try and help other people that are hurting. It gives me a good feeling inside and gives me self confidence in helping other people.

I hope MDJ will be as good for you as it has been for me! Many Blessings and Much love.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but not to MDJ -- I have Bipolar, Tachycardia, asthma, terrible allergies, and now, possibly, simple partial seizures?!? I was going to see a neurologist anyway because during the last few bipolar episodes I've "lost" time, up to 80% of 2+ weeks.

Then, over the last year I have had what I believe to be 3 simple partial seizures while operating heavy machinery -- it scared the holy hell out of me! I felt detached, unable to focus, scared, body got rigid, didn't have much control over my arms and legs, very well could have pissed myself, and felt like I would suddenly fall asleep. The only reason I got through it all was to focus intensely, more than ever before.

I'm on a lot of meds right now, and I feel they are the main source of these seizures. I can't stand the thought of possibly having yet another illness. Then again, some have cited a link between bipolar and seizures. Should I be surprised?

Does any of this sound familiar to those who get simple partial seizures?

Thx, Zadie

I'm alone, concentrating. But it does feel like I'm suddenly underwater, the texture of everything is so different. It's scary. And I feel like I'm going to nod off.

I need to go see a neuro doc anyway due to some spells of amnesia. I have had "events" lasting less than 20 seconds that have almost gotten me into accidents. They might have been very very brief anxiety attacks, but I doubt this. I need to get checked out by neuro. Besides, I've sustained several serious blows to the head and at age 10 I had a full-fledged seizure in front of an entire church congregation.

My 10 yr old son started having simple partial seizures in dec. last year. He had a few "biggies" and then settled in to having about one every week. Doc started him on Trileptal which caused a rash and more seizures. ER visit...Keppra. Lots of Keppra. He had a horrible reaction...hallucinations an some time in the ICU. We tried Topamax, Vimpat, Klonapin. Seizures continued to occur... between twice daily and every other day. He missed over a month of school. sadly, he wasn't the same boy I knew for a decade. He was scared, unfocused, unmotivated, and dull (brain altering meds).

I suspected something more than the doctors offered as an explanation (heads of neurology at children's hospital - we saw several). A visit to a DO, left us encouraged for the first time in months!

We went gluten free. We tested it by eliminating it for 2 weeks, and reintroducing it with one cookie. Within minutes he was crying. His face was red, palms sweaty, and getting electric shocks and zaps. The next day he was an emotional wreck and unable to concentrate at school. Since then, there have been a few accidental gluten ingestions...all end the same...with an over emotional boy, sweaty palms, electric zaps, stomache pain, and brain fog.

Non-celiac gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance causes neurological symptoms. Google it.

My boy is back...bright again! He's happy and thriving. He has an episode about twice a month, but he is back to himself and off all drugs. Our neuro doesn't even care to see him anymore!

So so grateful.

Also started seeing a NUCCA chiropractor...great!

Hello Zadieblue. I don't know if you recognize my username from the bipolar forums, but I am diagnosed with having simple partial seizures. Mine are very much linked to my elevated moods, although I have had one while depressed. I am always conscious but am usually not concentrating on other people. An example of my big one was when I ran downstairs and wanted to run outside in my nightgown. During it I was screaming gibberish rapid fire. My husband tackled me and I fought him. Then I calmed down, breathing heavily but shaking strongly. Then I got up and went up to bed tired and rested for a while.

Other times I tend to repeat words or phrases. I've done this in public. Once I said "this is pretty, this is pretty, this is pretty, this is pretty, this is pretty" or something like that very quickly. I've repeated other words and phrases in public as well. I know I am doing it but can't stop. I see people looking at me either quizzically or in mild horror. Once after doing this in the pharmacy I went to the pharm tech and asked her if I should go to the hair salon. She looked at me quizzically and told me it was up to me. I went home and cancelled the hair salon and repeated words to that clerk via phone.

I've read that symptoms of SPS vary by person. I suppose mine could be much much worse. I take Tegretol XR to control mine and it helps, but not perfectly if I'm in an elevated mood. I have also had musical hallucinations, which I was told were seizure related. That started out to be interesting and turning more than disconcerting. I'm find at the moment.

Bipolar 1, Simple Partial Seizures, and migraines

Psychiatric meds:

Lithium ER (900 mg)*Tegretol XR (1400 mg)*Lamictal (100 mg)*Geodon (160 mg)*Navane (5 mg)*Seroquel XR (100 mg)*Klonopin (.5 mg)

Ativan 1 mg "as needed" (I rarely take it.)*Seroquel regular 50 mg "as needed" (Only if I'm getting elevated.)

Other meds:

Propranolol (40 mg)*Levothyroxine (150 mcg)

My mix is side effect friendly for me.
