At the urging of a friend, I petitioned Roy for this section. Health and nutrition play a vital role in life, as everyone knows. However, particularly with our abusers, it's sometimes hard to get the proper diet and exercise we need. Some are made to starve, some cover their pain with food. I'm guilty of that last.

I think this topic is a great place to share tips and ideas that we can use to maintain our physical health. Mental health will follow, as when we're healthy, we can think more clearly and therefore react differently. Also make us live longer Wink

I think it is part of being self loving to look after the bodies we have been put in. I was very good at this until my abuser left and have been emotionally eating something I havent done in many years. I do know stress burns up our vitamin b so that always has to be a priority to get more of that. I also take fish oil. But on the food front I need to get off those bickies I keep dunking in my cuppa. When I eat plenty of veggies I can feel the difference in me emotionally and physically and mentally compared to me eating sweet stuff which is what I do when I emotionally eat.

Excellent! Nutrition is important for emotional health. The emotional ups and downs we experience can often be influenced by our nutritional intake and its quite surprising how much of an effect our food has on us.

You make a great point FatherKarras "However, particularly with our abusers, it's sometimes hard to get the proper diet and exercise we need", and hopefully we can all share ideas on how to deal with issues like this.

Looking forward to reading, learning and sharing ideas.

Maybe trying something like, when you start the self-loathing, I'm ugly/fat/whatever cycle, if you have an exercise bike or treadmill or whatever, hop on that for 10 minutes. Not only will you get some exercise, but emotionally you'll feel good about having done it.

So dust off the exercise equipment and try it. Couldn't hurt, right?

An excellent resource is Sparkpeople.com You can keep logs of food and exercise and it even tells you how much to exercise and eat according to your exercise and weight. There are many groups to join as well according to other interests - body builders, moms over 30 etc. I absolutely love it - I have achieved my goal but I still use it to maintain Smile

Well, mine are reading books about medicines, listening songs, watching horror movies, hanging out with friends and walking with my doggy Jester. I am spending my leisure time through these things and I can enjoy a lot.
