Hi and welcome to the group! It is difficult to choose an attorney from just the yellow pages. Maybe you could Goggle some of the names that interest you, read their bios and look at their websites. Then, when you have a few who interest you, call them for a consultation which is also a good way for you to judge their professional demeanor and how well you think you could work with them. Most attorneys do not charge for a consultation.

Hey Hun,

I don't know any lawyers in your area, but you may want to try this link: http://bestlawfirms.usnews.com/. Here is another link to Hartford Magazine which ranks lawyers depending on the category of law they practice: http://www.hartfordmag.com/TopLawyers/index.html#family.

I would think this would be a starting point. Next, I would then check out their qualifications online... where they went to law school if it is listed because where they attended sometimes gives you an idea if they are a good lawyer or not. See if you can find out their track record of cases won/lost etc.... You may even want to check with the law library of your county if they have any resources they can suggest for selecting an attorney. Also most important!!!! If you share your computer with your husband please delete the history so that he does not know you are looking up divorce attorneys or anything else he may try to use against you or find a way to abuse you further.

Hugs,

LL

Loralie has some excellent suggestions. One other thing I would suggest is to call a local domestic abuse hotline. They usually have the inside scoop on resources in your area and would probably be able to recommend some good attorneys for you.
