DUAL DIAGNOSED--The Unspoken Kindness

Hey Y'all!

Since you out there are not exactly "beating a path" to this forum, how about if I bring this forum to you? ...with a thought?

There is, as far as I know, one great and reliable antidote for the misery of the dually diagnosed. That antidote is the concept of an unspoken kindness--a silent, unheralded, unboasted, undisclosed gesture of love in an effort to make someone else's day a little easier, a little more comfortable, and perhaps a little happier.

This concept applies best where we, the afflicted, have wrought the most damage--among our loved ones, our friends, and among our co-workers.

So, just for today, try to convert the energy of your misery and your suffering into one simple act of kindness. Every event and every encounter with another person offers some opportunity for kindness. Open your eyes, your hearts, and your pores to the possibility that you may do some good for someone else--that the merest of kindness in itself is enough to quell your own pain and to nourish, if only for a moment, your own peace and freedom.

If I'm lyin', I'm dyin'! ...but you'll never know, will you? ...until you try it for yourself.

Gratitude is the best insurance against relapse!

Jim

I think you are absolutely right. I am feeling so down right now and feel like I NEED drugs. I have been acting like a jerk to people since I feel like crap. When I am nice to others I feel like I am worth more and that life is worth living without drugs or alcohol.
