Hey Everyone I have a few questions I am currently in recovery from opiate addiction(pain meds) I also have bipolar. Prior to my replase in July of 07 I was on several different meds for my bipolar at that point it was unmanageable. Due to the myths and stigmas of Psychotropic drugs I began to get pressure from my family to get off these meds that I was a legal addict and in a zombie state. Yes I was a walking zombie just with the 400 mg of serquil alone I was always exhausted and almost lifeless. As I began to get tired of being tired I started to decrease my intake of these meds I ended up just staying on the serquil for a while then eventually stopped that also. I stopped my serquil in the end of May and by July I was back on pain meds simply to be in a good mood not to be depressed and to help me get through the day and be more productive at work. Anyway I am now taking Suboxone which is an opiate blocker. I have no health insurace so I have not been to a Psych in quite some time I see my thearpist weekly though. I am looking for a Dr who will see me on a sliding scale. My major concerns is right now I am doing ok but I know once I see the Dr they are going to put me on something I fear I will become a zombie again gain a lot a weight and so on from these meds and end up feeling worse. I also wonder if stopping these meds last may might have caused me to relapse only 6 months after being clean this being my second time getting clean I want to avoid a 3rd time having to go through this. If there is anyone out there with any advice or similar experience or anyone who wants a friend to talk to and to listen as well hit me up I am glad I found this site.

Thanks

JR

All I can say is that when I stopped taking my meds, a long downward spiral happened. I did more drugs then ever and lost years of my short life. Make sure you go to a good doctor and take your meds. Meds aren't perfect, but its better then ending up dead, in jail, or an institution.
