cinderella"MDJunction to me is a life saver... when i first was diagnosed with Scheuermann's Disease i wrote a message to a page i found on google, hoping that they could help me.... you'd never know it but that weird feeling (you know that one where it feels like someone actually cares) came over me when i opened my email next day to find that someone on the other side of the world (at the American Medical Library)had read my message while i was sleeping, and there low and behold was the address to MDJunction.... well it is everything to me, i live it breathe it and love it!!!!! I have found many people who are struggling with similar issues banding together to help each other. It is the best place in the world, and i couldn't think of another place to go to meet so many lovely people....

I saw the dentist today. I have horrid dry mouth and massive, multiple caries due to that and increased acid production.

The dentist basically told me this:

If you have decreased saliva production, you have two problems. One is moisture and the other is the slimy part of saliva, the part that lubricates your tongue and stuff like that.

When you drink a gallon of water a day, you are rinsing all the not-adequate lubricating part of your saliva right down your throat.

This is not good. Sad

Here is what he recommends:

Go to the pharmacy. Behind the counter, they have something called mouth or oral moisturizer. It is basically artificial saliva, kinda like artificial tears for dry eyes. There are several kinds and several flavors.

Buy this. Use it as often as you need it, as much as you need. This will keep your mouth lubricated and moist, and you won't be drinking so much water and actually doing more harm than good.

Not that it helps me too much now....I have 4 good teeth left in my mouth and am praying how in the world we're going to come up with $7000 to get my teeth extracted and get dentures.

But maybe, just maybe, it will help someone else here.

I hope so. Blush

I am 35 and I suffer from dry mouth. I believe it is from the medication I take. I have had 3 cavities in my lower front mouth filled and had a root canal. I do use Biotin at night before bed. The dentist doesnt understand my decay but it has to be dry mouth and thinking of seeing a diffferent dentist to get second opinjon. Maybe I will try the gel that is $10.00 or that spray, I also wanted to know if anyone salivary glands ever get swollen. Dentist once told me they were inflamed nd sometimes i do get bumps in back of mouth and then go away after benadryl so who knows

Hi Legalgal97:

Do you drink soda? I've read lately also that if you drink it over an extended period of time instead of just drinking a can or glass and then being done with it -- like those mega ultra super duper gulp 68 ounce jobs they sell at the gas station that takes a couple hours to finish -- you are increasing the acidic eroding properties of the pop and it can actually promote tooth decay as well.

I'm glad the information helped you.

I'm getting the rest of my teeth pulled on Friday. Then, after two more months, I'll be getting my dentures fitted. The total will be almost $10K including teeth and dentures. I'm not so happy but it will be nice getting it all done.
