My boyfriend who is addicted to painkillers has really been trying the past few days to cut himself down on how many he takes hoping to quit this way... he has been doing great this past week but today he asked if he could borrow some money to get a few because he is as always broke until payday... I could easily loan him the money knowing that he is trying to quit but I said no because the other half of me feels that it is enabling to do that... and if he really wants to quit, he would get help for it.... I feel very guilty now and he immediately stopped talking and obviously upset about it...

I am just at conflict with myself if things like this are helping or hurting the chances of him quitting??

Users have perfected the art of manipulation. You are not responsible for his addiction. So why are you letting him make you feel guilty because you wont help contribute?

You are not responsible for his willingness to quit. Dont let him take advantage of you..... I think once you have an addiction, there is no such thing as cutting down. You just quit. "Cutting down" is an excuse to be able to keep using.

i have to agree with the above comment from wagst5..thats an excuse to still use.. addicts do manipulate and we are sometimes in denial and we belive them.. My mother is a heroin addict and she has manipulated me since i was 10. you have to stand your ground and be strong..
Thank you everyone who has offered me advice, knowledge and
prayers..you all help me alot!!!
