i went to the doctor a month ago and she told me that my baby may have down syndrome because of a white muscle in my baby's heart. Then i took the blood test and it said that i was @ a medium risk of carrying a baby with down syndrome. I'm scared to take the amnio test. And my baby didnt have any of the physical features of down syndrome in the ultrasound. What should i do???? am i over reacting????????????

Hi-

My name is Madlyn. I was in your situation 4 yrs ago. In about my 5th month I was told there might be a chance my baby had down's and they wanted me to do an Amnio. I knew there was a risk but they did an ultra sound and said the baby's heart was fine and no deformation in the fingers or anything so I decided to not get the Amnio. When my son was born he DID have Down's and I was destroyed. I was crying and crying asking WHY. My daughter turned out perfect in every way. Why didn' this baby. Of course there was no history of Down's in my family. When I held Jack I didn't know if I could love him. Well I instantly fell in love with him and new there must have been a reason he was sent to me. Every birth is different. The odds were with me and sounds like you too but I still got Jack. Either way, think positive. Only GOOD can come of it. I look at the world differently since having Jack. Also, I was only 30. Goood luck to you .Keep me informed. P.S. My son also ended up having 4 holes in his heart and having open heart surgery even though the ultrasound showed no heart problems.

we had freinds of ours that were told their baby did have downs, every markers was there they fought with each other over keeping the baby or not going through with the birth funny thing is the baby was perfect health wise,no downs they came very close to ending their perfectly healthy babies life and honestly the guilt they feel for that over whelms them so now he's spoiled rotton.

I know there are people out there who go through these desissions daily I might suggest befor you do make one ask to find a downs child and spend some time you might change your mind one way or another, and not all are the same there are of course common medical problems heart, eyes joints and life exspectance but I've learned its a day by day and you might be very surprised.
