Hello,

I just joined this group. I am 36 and 2 weeks ago had severe lower left abdominal pain. Went to the ER and ended up having Emergency surgery to remove 4 inches of my transverse colon where there was a perferation. I was in the hospital for 6 days and it was rough. I am on the mend now but was wondering if anyone knew if I should have a GI doctor going forward? The bad part was removed and I know I need a higher fiber diet, but am hoping the surgery means I wont have to deal with this again? Teh surgeon thought I would b eok now.....

Also, has anyone had this type of surgery? The healing process seems so slow and I am wondering how long I should expect to feel this crappy.

Thanks!

Meredith

Hi Meridith,

My friend is 74 and he had this surgery two moths ago and is doing much better. He did have to go back to the hospital afer the surgery because it got infected, otherwise his progress would have been much better. You did not mentioned if your colon was reattached or needed a colostome bag. He did not and was very happy about that.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I had the colon re-attached, but 3 months after surgery I am having severd pain and on antibiotics and getting a cat scan tomorrow. Something is very wrong and I am worried. Can't go through being back under the knife again....
