HEllo everyone,

i am new to this group, and i have joined it in a hope that i will get some help for my mother who is on Heamo dialysis for two years. initially it was very hard for her as well as for us to believe that her kidneys have failed, but now she has gathered some courage to face it. she has lost almost 10 kg in these two years.what i am worried about is her normal blood pressure is 140/90, and when she is on dialysis it goes up to 200 and sometimes 230. i am concerned that it might be hard on heart too. when we talk to her doctor, doctor prescribes some more blood pressure regulating medicines.my mother is on twice a week dialysis but now when we told the doctor about mothers high blood pressure during heamo dialysis she suggested her to go for three times a week dialysis.

i am concerned whether it is normal, doctor is giving right treatment or not.

it will be a great help if anyone has any idea about above mentioned.

Thanks,

samii

Welcome to our site.

1. Only a Dr with the lab reports can assess whether the treatment is right. I would have to believe that it is.

There is a problem that needs to be looked at because normally the BP drops during treatment.

Three treatments a week is aggravating, but a better solution than 2 in any event.

I'm sure your mom is abiding by her diet, food and fluid. That is vital twice. Once for the cleansing and once for BP.

Best regards

Cicero

Hello, I am not on Hemo so I can't really be sure about any of that, and as cicero said..."we are not doctors, so it is really not something we can assess like they can"...but I can tell you that MY high BP was related to my water weight. My peritoneal dialysis treatments pull the water weight off and drops my BP. I am thinking that the Hemo would pull the water weight too and so it would make sense that an extra treatment would pull more and help her BP come down. Like cicero said, treatment should drop the BP. It really could be that she just needs more treatment and that it will make the difference. With my peritoneal dialysis, there are different strengths of solution, and some days I have to do a higher solution to pull more water weight for various reasons, so it is not weird that she may need more treatment. There are a lot of factors like cicero said with food/fluid and even meds mixed in with a whole lot of other situations that make our medical needs change on a daily basis. I hope things work out and that once you give the extra hemo a try that things start to regulate a little bit more!
