It is with guilt that I admit I have really truly fallen off the wagon since I joined the group a long while back. I was doing so well, then a whole range of problems hit me depression being the main one. After my doctor said my diabetes was in remission he said to keep up the good work with my diet... it worked for a while...til I started to become depressed with home life and things going on....then the poundage started to slowly find me again...bad habits started all over.

I still have some good habits that I've kept but I know without even getting blood work done that my levels are all over the place once again.

My questions are, since I'm not going to keep playing the pity game on myself...what insulin pills are out there??

I was on metformin...but I read that ppl with kidney disease shouldn't take it? Although I'm not sure if kidney stones count as kidney disease.

I was also on glucophage right before I was taken off all meds.

But which ones are more likely to help you shed pounds as well as keep ur sugar in check, and are they safe for ppl that suffered from kidney stones.

Thanks for any help

Metformin is the generic of glucophage. Byetta is an injectable that some doctors prescribe and it is supposed to help with weight but it has its serious side effects. The only one that can prescribe what is needed is your doctor. I would suggest you see an endocrinologist. Have you taken a diabetes class?

It would be good to have a dietician to help direct you. I had trouble too, until I got a good dietician. She sees me for 1 hour every 3 months and has really turned my diabetes around (A1c is 5.4!) The doc wasn't too much help. Doctors don't have time to work with you.
Any suggestion I offer is intended as friendly advice based solely on my own experience. Please consult your doctor for professional guidance.

I've never seen a dietician...or and endocrinologist. I was doing fine at first when I was first taken off my meds and just pretty much slipped.

I was only curious as to which medicines were out there so I could do research on them... I would never try to get on a med without a doctors approval.

But Violett, you're probably right I probably need a dietician. Smile

Hello,

Here are 5 other diabetic medications you can discuss with your doctor;

Sulfonylureas

Biguanides

Thiazolidinsdiones

Alpha-glucosidase inhibirors

Meglitinikes

Dipepidaseiv (DPP-IV) inhibitors

Combination THERAPY

Here are some tips...stay motivated, identify barriers, good diabetes care (feet check etc), create a good support staff and make it a point to see your doctor regularly.

You really need to keep your sugar levels within the normal range...low & high blood sugar levels within the normal levels since both low & high blood sugar can cause serious health complications.

Take care and keep us posted!

Hugs,

Kathleen

Thank you so much Kathleen Laughing I am trying extra hard this time around. I'm not sure if I mentioned any where in my post, but I have kidney stones now...and i'm already guessing it's partly due to my horrible diet. I was like enough is enough. The other day I was in so much pain that I just wanted to lay on the floor and just stay there. Also the weight gain really has me down, but I only have myself to blame. Even right now my sides are aching and I'm without the medication to help ease the pain.

I do have a question though since u brought up foot check, if sandals give you a callus on your foot, it's probably time to quit wearing them, right? and make an appt with a foot doctor just to be sure?

Yes, scandals are hard on the feet...they don't give any proper support. They are okay to wear around the house and such but if you are going to be walking a great deal it's always best to wear a good supportive pair of tennis shoes.

If you have any kind of foot problem see your doctor and it's always a great idea to see a podiatrist once a year.

Take care of yourself. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hugs,

Kathleen
