Sorry that you have not been doing well, hope you and the rest of the family get to feeling better, I haven't checked out that link yet, but if it has them reproducing insulin cells, that will be great, I know that they have been looking at stem cells and stuff for that, will have to check it out..

hello earle-

glad to hear that you are recovering from the pneumonia.

carmen-

when is my life not so busy?????!!!!!!!!!!! LOL..........

if its not one kid its another!!! like tomorrow- we thought we would have no kids home- well we are wrong- our 7yo drew has another infection in his tooth- and because he needs open heart- he is going to be home until the meds start working- which that is where dh is right now- picking up the med before the store closes!!!!!

last week drew was out with the flu, this week was our 13 yo son and tomorrow the 13 yo is going back but the 7yo is going to be home...............

YIKES!!!!

okay now that i can breathe again...............

Hi Carmen33

Morning everyone!

I have a question.....How dangerous is it to have children when you are diabetic? Is it recommended or not? I know women may get gestational diabetes once they are pregnant but if you are diabetic prior to that, what happens?

hello sunshine1977-

from what i hear- they just monitor you alot and i mean alot closer than they would one who is not. chances are if you are not already there- they may put you on insulin during it- and your baby more than likely will be born earlier- that is just what i have heard from a friend who is a rn-just because you are diabetic(mom to be) does not mean the baby will be- baby may be once they get older but not so sure at this point.

does this help any?

Hey Sunshine, I haven't read anything on it saying that a Mother who is diabetic should not have children.. will do some research on what I can find, but I believe it will be like Katrina said, they just watch you more closely.. and adjust accordingly.

Thank you ladies for the info. I'm not a mom and I'm 30 but it is really a big concern. I always thought about becoming a mom but now I feel scared. I'm not pregnant or trying to get pregnant but I do need to start thinking about these things for if one day comes that special ocassion.

Hey Sunshine, I have two children, and they are perfectly fine.. with a mom who has known diabetes, they take extra precautions and monitor you and the baby, my husband and I had what is called the RH-Factor, it's something to do with the different blood types not working together and it can harm the baby.. He had O+ and I have O-, those two for some reason do not get along together, I had to have continuous blood tests, over and above what is normal, along with having to have what was called a rogam shot after the birth of each child.. Like I said, the kids are fine..
