I've been trying to learn more about this drug, I haven't had the opportunity to discuss it with my edoc.

Did you know that the FDA is currently considering giving this med a black box label because of the cardio side effects and deaths from heart attacks?

I am curious to know if your edocs explained any of these things to you. and does anyone know when this med was first put on the market?

Dee

what Iwas told is that it can cause some fluid retention and if you are at risk or have congested heart failure that is when it can be a problem. congested heart failure is when the heart is weak and can't pump hard enough the body retains fluid because of it. I have been on the Actos for about 3 years now. yes I have had some weight gain that I feel is related but I have not had any major fluid retention problems. I also was told that because Avandia which is in the same class of drugs was given a black box warning they are on the fence per say about putting it on Actos even though it did not show quite the same tendedncies. I hope this helps

Hey Snoopy, I haven't read anything on the Actos, about causing the fluid retentions, but most meds can do that, weight can do that, and as long as you are not at risk, you should not have any problem with it, I have what is called aortic regurgitation where the aortic valve leaks..and has to work overtime to pump the blood it should be doing the first time around. I haven't had any major problems with water retention as I take a drug called enapril for the heart problem which works as a diuretic. I don't believe it would be a problem as long as the doctor is aware of your medical history and does his routine checks.

Here are a couple of links that I have come up with on Actos, the one on the bottom is about the new warning labels to go with actos and avandia.

since I been lucky enough not to add heart problems to my long list of ailments. I haven't been too concerned. I am also on Lyrica to treat my fibromyalgia. The Lyrica cautions you about being on Actos or Avandia along with it because it can also cause fluid retention and when added to those meds put you at even a higher risk. So far I have not had any issues with it. So I really am not concerned. Like you said my Dr. is aware of all the issues we discussed the risks before the Lyrica was added and are just watching

Cool, I am glad that you and your doctor have discussed this, sometimes the doctors don't pay attention to the reactions between medications, that has become one of the biggest things that drug stores advertise, about them being able to tell you about any reactions between your meds. Even my doctor did it, he put me on two different types of antidepressants, both which canceled out the other.
