I had to take my sister to the Doctor in another city yesterday and by the time I got home I was so exhausted that I just went to bed without eating dinner. Unfortunately that turned out like it usually does with me up vomiting at the crack of dawn. The thing was when i got around to taking blood sugar reading this morning it was high. Hubby suggested it was because I was dehydrated which may have been the case.

What do you all do when you just do not feel like eating and does everyone else have the same reaction I do?

I totally understand , and I probably wouldnt be one to ask for advice on this but I can tell you how I handle things.

I have the problem with my diabeties staying high almost all the time. I could eat around say 5pm , goto bed around 11 and wake up around 6 to 7 not have anything to eat or drink and my blood sugar will be high. Its a constant type battle to get my sugar even close to where its supposed to be and 80 percent of the time it isnt.

As for being dehydrated , I wouldnt think if you were it would be high , I would think the opposite but anything is possible.

And thanks for the hug!

nita...i do...i mean have the same reaction...a nurses aid who use to work for a dietician

said to keep saltenes or graham crackers and munch 1 or two if you feel you cant eat...it helps a bit..like you my sugar goes up if i dont eat...i also get dehydrated...the liver goes in to protection mode and actually releases more sugar if you dont eat...to protect from starvation...it releases more sugar...and the body stores fat to feed off of...

Hello Ladies,

I can relate to the not wanting any food 'thing', especially in the morning. Still we need to try & eat regular meals but if we can't we at least need to try something to get us started and back on track. Gram crackers, peanut butter (protein) crackers and such are good. If you can't even manage that, drink plenty of fluids especially fluids that contain electrolytes. It's important to stay hydrated to avoid diabetic ketaocidosis which can become life threatening.

I recommend talking to a registered dietitian who can give you some better advice and guidance on how to deal with high blood sugar when you can't eat.

Best of luck!

Hugs,

Kathleen

PS Excessive thirst is a symptom of high blood sugar

Hi Greytabby,

As I've said before, I am currently surviving by the philosophy that 'if you're at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on'. So far so good. Thanks for asking.

Hugs,

Kathleen
