well i had gotten some unwanted news today- i went to the dr for a procedure and found that i cannot have it done. instead, the dr recommended a partial hysterectomey for me- and in the next 6 weeks or i have to go back and have a scope done of my right ovary-

i have some fibroid tumors and a mass on my right ovary and my uterus is at 14 cm - a normal uterus is at 7 cm.

any and all thoughts and comments would greatly be appreciated at this time.

my one big fear is that what i have worked so hard at maintaining is going to be lost and harder to get back to- and i do not want that!!! as of yesterday i have managed to maintain a 5.7 a1c for the past 6 months-

i want to keep it and go from there- and lose another 40 pounds yet.

Thank you in advance for the help and thoughts..............

Katrina, I am sorry to hear about the surgery, that is going to be tough, but thanks to your great control, the healing is going to be that much faster, when your diabetes is out of control, healing takes a much longer time, you've done wonderful, and I am sure that you will continue to do so.. no need to fret..ok?

What kind of procedure were you going to have done?

but now i cannot- so i am struggling with this- i want it gone- totally and am sick of having such heavy periods- so i was not prepared to hear what the dr had to say today- for sure!!

part of me is happy to have it gone and part of me is worried that what i worked so hard for and have right now- is gonna be gone-

sorry to ramble again- and thanks for listening-if i have gotten to personal i am sorry but this is me............

I'm so sorry to hear about your surgery. I had a hysterectomy when I was 32. You have done an excellent job in getting your weight down and controlling your diabetes so all that is going to help you tremendously. I want to warn you about something though. when your body goes through the stress of a surgery or major illness it can sometimes mess up your sugars. DO NOT get upset if right after surgery your sugars get out of control for a short time. Sometimes in the hospital they have to treat you with medicine even though you normally don't take any. IT DOES NOT mean you will have to take them for ever. It just means your body may need a little extra help immediately after surgery. Keep up all the things you've been doing. And now for the silver lining I must always find. With surgery and hospital food after it's sure to help you loose a few extra pounds. lol Take care and keep us posted

Karen-

I have heard that the sugars will be out of control for a bit- i also have had open heart surgery 34 yrs ago- so i get some penicillin before the surgery and after- i have no clue how he is doing the surgery- just that i need it- i am half happy for it and half not- i hate needles and hospitals.........oh well hopefully this will be my last one ever needed...............crossing my fingers on that one.

well again i thank all of you for your words of wisdom and help-

Hey Katrina, I did a little digging and the link below is the only one that I could really find that addresses the issue of having surgery when you are diabetic, it's full of doctor speak, but basically what it is saying is that if you have great control like you do, a short course of insulin might be required after the surgery to keep you in control, but after that you will be right back to normal.. If you can get ahold of your doctor, as him/her to explain what is going to happen, tell them about your concerns, I am sure that you have nothing to worry about.

I had a gallbladder surgery, and the only thing, that was required for it, was a over night stay in the hospital, and that was with my control being totally out of control and no weight loss..and I am well over 200 pounds... all in all I need to lose about 115, with all the advances that have been made in medicine, most surgeries now are done with minor invasion..like the gallbladder, 4 little cuts and it is done..

I have heart issues too, haven't had to have the open heart yet, but will one day, the penicillin is just to insure no infections. Sweetie I don't believe you have anything to worry about, but surgery in and of itself is a scary thing... just let your doctor know about your concerns and they can explain everything that is going to happen.

thank you carmen- and i did read this and after last nite- i am sure this is the right thing to do-part of me has regrets as i am sure all women might- but other than that- if this is the only way to stop my monthly cycles- then so be it. i am very tired of going thru what i have been for years and want an end to it.

so- i will call my dr on monday and see what times are available and possibly get in asap!!!!

i have told my husband now- that i will no longer be going to the dr office in the months of december and january...........jan of this year i found out i was diabetic and now in december i am told i need to have the partial done asap- or he wants to biopsy the right ovary.

okay enough said here- thank you again and i am crossing my fingers............

I am glad to hear that you are feeling more comfortable about it, and I can understand the problems with the monthlies..I've got to check with my doctor about them, I had one (normal schedule) two weeks ago, thought it was going to bleed me to death then, and now just 3 days ago, it started again, heavy bleeding, heavy clotting..mine have been the heavy stuff most of my life, averaging between 4 to 8 days, last time I had something like this I was on birth control and it took a D & C (dusting & cleaning as my doctor called it) to clear that up..no birth control this time, as i had a tubal several years ago.. kinda figuring mine is menopause this time because of the age. I am 48.

Having things happen in certain months is kinda disheartening, but think of it this way, it is better to catch a problem early and treat it, than wait and have it get worse..

Your going to be fine...just let us know when you have it scheduled for, and we will put up extra prayers for your health and wellbeing..

thank you again carmen- what seems to scare me is that i am only 40 years old!!! but my mother went thru this at 44 yrs old. and the same darn thing i have she had. only the dr is talking partial hysterectomy for me- leaving me with one ovary so i have no meds to take. i am aware that my sugars will be up some- that happened last time i was on penicillin for my ear infection. just earlier this month.

i will keep everyone posted- thanks again!!!

Katrinamarie,

I know this is all alot to handle. Like I said earlier I had a hysterectomy at age 32. At some point not long after that I was doing a little stint with a counsoler and she asked me if I had greived yet? I said what for. She said alot of women will greive after a hysterectomy because of the whole no more kids, feeling like a women and stuff and I told her I had had so many problems with cysts and pain, heavy periods and endometriosis I couldn't imagine ever greiving. I honestly have to say for me it was the best thing. they did have to take everything so I was on hormone therapy after for about 10 years then I finally stopped them too. You will get through this and we will be here for you
