Mmmmm let me think - um..... I live in Australia & it is currently our winter so it is cold & wet. It doesn't snow where I am in South Australia.........so what's the weather doing where everyone else lives??

Hi Zannah,

I live in NE Ohio where it is currently summer. We've been having a wide range of weather. Some rather comfortable days around 75F (24C) to some VERY comfortably hot day of 99F (37C) with high humidity!Shocked

Our air conditioner broke in our home, so I often take the kids and go elsewhere to beat the heat -- the library, a book store, McDonald's, shopping... The air conditioner is broken in my van, as well.Sad

I enjoy summer, but not when it is too hot!Blink

Since it is winter in Australia, are kids there currently in school? My kids are on summer break till the end of August. Just three more weeks before they start back. Gosh time flies!

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your reply!

Wow you have been having some hot weather!! Is your air cond fixed yet? I certainly hope so! Yes the kids are at school - they have just started term 3.

Wot have your kids been up to in the holis - anything exciting?? Do you work or do you get to spend some time with them?

It's been wet & windy here - I'll be glad when it's spring time - that's a very pretty time of year.

Anyone is welcome to join in our stimulating conversation!!

Stay cool.

Z Tongue

Hi Zannah,

Well, the A/C is not fixed in the house, but we did purchase some used window units. Our house is so small that 3 window units have made a significant difference in our comfort level! Whew! The forecast is for 90 F (32 C) tomorrow. Sad

My kids have been having a GREAT summer vacation, though! We volunteer for a Christian festival in June and camp there for the week -- swimming, music, games, and friends.Cool Then we went camping in PA and took the kids to an amusement park for a couple of days and an old historic fort while we were there. My daughter went camping again for a week with her girlfriend and my son spent the day with his friend shooting paintball guns and swimming. We've gone to the drive-in movies once this summer, besides going to the dollar movie theater several times. We will go camping again for the weekend to visit a niece as it is her son's 2nd birthday. While there, we are going to the air force museum. So, my kids will have plenty to write about when they go back to school on the theme "What I've done during summer break..."

I've been working a part-time, temporary position with the US Census Bureau. So, I have been around the house off and on, but the kids and I have managed to spend a great deal of time together this summer. My daughter says she doesn't like it when I work, but as the old saying goes, I need to make hay while the sun shines!

Here's hoping for more temperate weather for the both of us!Wink

Hi I live in Chicago, IL and it's HOT, HUMID and HOT. ha. But it's summer, so when I step outside of the cold office and feel the hot sun hit my arms and face, I sight a relief. Aaaaah! It's not winter yet! Winter is pretty but boy it gets cold here. Australia sounds amazing! I am jealous...

Hello everyone, I"m from PA near Lake Erie. It is starting to cool down just a little making it a bit more tolerable. Tomatoes are ripening, and the grapes will be next...a sure sign of fall! I LOVE fall. My son was born late October so it is a special time of year for me (he's 18 but will always be my baby).

Okay enough about weather...how about books, have you read any good books over the summer/winter? I especially like Debbie McComber books. I am reading Twenty Wishes right now and I love it. I have about 30 more pages to go and I don't want it to end so I'll wait for the weekend to finish it. I like a lot of different writers but this is what I'm hooked on for now. I don't have tons of time to read but it is enjoyable when I do get the time.

Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were made to do. Orison Swett Marden

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to read as of late. When I was younger I read a lot of fiction, but as I have aged, I've found that my tastes in books have changed a lot. Not that I don't like a good fiction book every now and again, but I have really turned more toward biographies, history, and other non-fictional writings. Though I have many books on my nightstand, and many irons in the fire, I can't think of one off hand that stands out. Unlike most fiction reads, I have a tendency to read several chapters of a non-fiction book, set it aside, and pick up the next, thus having started as many as 7-10 books without finishing one. Either that's just a bad habit I've acquired, or it's a sign of my ADD! Grin

Hello Ladies,

Let's see what I'm reading right now.....well I have a new book that I just bought (so cool!) and it's all Edgar Allen Poe poetry and stories. My fave story (which we had to read in high school) is The Cask of Amontillado. I have yet to read the TellTale Heart but I'll be reading that soon enough.

I'm also reading a fiction book called The Shift. It's by a local writer that lives on Cape Cod. Lynne Kiele Bonasia. Very good stuff!

And I'm also reading a huge biography about Napoleon Bonaparte. My next biography will be about Robert the Bruce. I'm a diehard Braveheart fanatic and want to learn more about Robert the Bruce's role in everything Scotland.

And ya know....last summer I read Jaws. Hated it! Love the movie! The book? Not so much. Totally different from the movie. The movie was much better. I couldn't believe that Ellen Brody and Matt Hooper had a torrid affair in the book! Thank God the movie was completely different. Amen to Stephen Spielberg!

Well I'm off to get some work done now.

Hope everyone has a splendidly wonderful day! Tongue
