MDJunction to me

2steveb" In life we all have trials and tribulations to endure weather it be physical, mental or social. For me personally when i encountered MDJunction i was astounded. Since i joined MDJunction to me it has been a god send and a life saver. I have met and been able to converse freely with so many people in the same situation as myself, (that alone is a big help, to know your not alone) to be able to discuss and get good advice from a braud section of people. One of lifes hardest things is to discuss personal issues with friends/family and yet the mdj family is non judgmental and you will be made totally welcome to talk through any issue thats on your mind. There are forums for every known issue to mankind, to me MDJ.com has become my family extension, id be lost without these good people and the extremely good guide lines that group leaders help us all with to keep threads topical and friendly." Hello. My name is Jimmy Potter And I have Type 1 or Juvenile Diabetes. I am 38 and I was diagnosed when I was 11.

When I heard the doctor say diabetic, after looking at my urine, I started to cry. I was 11 ,I had no idea what diabetes was, I just knew it was not good. That was in January of 1984.

The years have gone by and i did things that were not wise that helped cause damage to my body. You see, I heard all the warnings of poor control, but nothing happene. You see the damage does not happen right that second. For me it was many years later.

I have diabetic retinopathy. I was blind for 3 years of my adult life. I was lucky or blessed, I had surgery done on my right eye (my lefteye is too far damaged) and I have sight again. The doctor that did the procedure said the textbooks say I shouldnt have sight though. There is no blood flow to my right eye.

Well I will stop for now. Just wanted to say hi to all and hopefully I will hear from some of you.

Hi JWP! Welcome! I can not imagine having to deal with this diease at such a young age.

I joined this forum earlier this year becaue my 19 year old son was diagnosed last May. It was quite a surprise to say the least.

I'm so happy to hear how you are able to see again after 3 years! That is truly a gift!

Are you on a pump right now or are you doing injections?

Again, WELCOME!

Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were made to do. Orison Swett Marden

Hi Jimmy,

My son was dx'ed when he was 2 1/2 years old. When I heard diabetes, I was thankful because I thought he had leukemia! He had wasted away to skin and bone and was nearly comatose with a blood sugar OVER 900 when we finally got him to the ER. I had called the doctor's office several times trying to speak with the doctor, but the receptionist kept putting me off. Because she was so nonchalant about my son's symptoms, I thought perhaps I was an over-reacting first-time mother. She schedule us an appointment the following week, but he didn't make it that far. Within 3 days we were in the ER.

My son is now 22 and is suffering from peripheral neuropathy in his feet. He also has micro-aneurysms in his eyes. We will see a retinopathist next month. He does not care about his health and is very lackadaisical about his care. Like you, he never thought the long-term effects would ever catch up to him.

You are a very blessed man to have regained your sight. We are glad you are able to be here with us.

~Mary

I know i take better care of it now but not perfect.

I can see agagin but not as good as my sight once was. I have noticed that colors are alittle off and I think it is because I see with one eye and with my left eye my center vision is gone. I see with my right eye.

I am on disability (social security) and I am only 38 years old. I have too much to live for now,my babies.
