Two weeks ago I went to the ER with pain/weakness in legs and feet, dizziness, trembling, fatigue, etc. I've gone to several doctors in the past 4/5 months with these symptoms and no one has really addressed them. In the ER, they did bloodwork which said my glucose was High at 143. The doctor said they could find no substantial reasons for my symptoms & told me to follow through with my doctor. They also gave me a brain scan, chest x-ray, and EKG which were all normal.

I will also tell you I had a total thyroidectomy in 2002. My TSH is 5.07 and have been on an increased dose of levothyroxine (100 Mcg.) for the last month.

Last week, I went to my neurologist because I thought the pain/weakness may be due to neuropathy. Also, the dizziness I've had since November and I get the shakes on occassion. She thought it may be RLS (Restless leg syndrome). I told her the pain and weakness were severe. At times I can hardly stand up or walk. She said she had RLS and gave me a prescription for Mirapex so I could sleep at night. She also had me go to get a fasting glucose test and A1c. Will get results next week. She said if it's still high that I would have to go to my ENDO for treatment.

At times, my feet hurt so bad I can't stand to even wear shoes. About a year and a half ago, my feet had hurt the same way. It lasted 2 months. I would get severe cramps driving to and from work. It was really hard sitting at a computer all day.

I know with high glucose, you have problems with your feet and can get diabetic neuropathy.

I'm so tired of going to doctors. Most of the time, they blame my thyroid for any pain/weakness, symptoms I have. I don't understand why the neurologist didn't think the high glucose was a red flag for some type of neuropathy.

I would really appreciate some help. When are you considered a Type 2 diabetic? When are you hyperglycemic and is that the same thing? How can I get my sugar down?

Thanks

I have done a lot of investigation on the web and have been to many neurologist and endos and have an idea what you may have. It sounds a lot like what I have been through. look up diabetic amyotrophy and see what that sounds like to you? I have the autonomic neuropathy with that as well. I am dizzy a lot a sweat also. I am not able to even put socks on but it has gotten much better from a few months ago. It was so severe that I wanted to die. Do you get shooting pain also. Are you cold to the bone? If I can help you with any answers I will. Hang in there! We have to be positive as I believe the brain is a powerful healer. Angela
