Fat Dissolving Injections?

Hello All,

I was recently seen by my Obesity Dr and he was telling me about an injection that is given directly into the fat cells that will make the fat dissolve. He is particularly interested in using this injection for my larger fatty tumors (lumps) to hopefully stop some of the pain from them pressing on bones, etc. and causing pain when I sit or move from side to side. He says there is some discomfort and minor swelling for a few days after the injections, then the fat is gone when the swelling goes down. It seems that these injections dissolve the fat and the body then carries the fat away to be processed by the liver and kidneys just like normal waste products. I did a search on the web, and this is a real product and it appears to work well. However, The fat will return if you don't watch your diet.

Has anyone on this site ever had these injections? Did they work for DD fat? Please let me know.

Celeste.

I have never ever heard of these injections. Has he done this to other Dercum's patients successfully?

Damien,

I don't know the name of the drug used, however, this Obesity/ endocrinologist specialist Dr. did say he thought it would work for me, and was worth a try. He planned to just inject a few lumps only. Not the surrounding fat. I then told the Dr. that I wouldn't even know where to start since I have thousands of lumps and when one is removed, several grow back. I told him I would think about it. I then showed him the multiple hundreds of small lumps across my ribcage. I then stated, as you can feel, I wouldn't know where to start. He never mentioned the injections again. At my next visit I showed him my new breakout of thousands of new little lumps all the way up the back of my legs. I showed him, and had him feel the large lump pressing on my right side, making my kidney and liver hurt. He never mentioned trying the injections at that visit. This Dr. told me that if I lost weight that the lumps would shrink. Well, I showed him at this latest visit that I have lost 16 pounds and the only thing that has happened is I now have a new outbreak of new lumps up the back of my legs. My lumps have gone thru a phase of multiplying at a manic rate. My bones in my legs are now hurting also. Shooting pain down the long bones. I am so weak that I can only walk one block then my legs hurt so bad I need heating pads and need to lay down and elevate my legs. I think that the walking is triggering the growth of new lumps.

Lumpysoftee,

I don't know if the injections will work or not for patients with DD. I don't know what type of fat it works on, and I don't know much else about this treatment such as side effects and over how long the fat loss occurs or how long before the fat returns or lumps return. It is all new to me. I have never heard of this type of treatment before. The Dr. did mention the name of the drug, however, I have such a short term memory loss, I don't remember the name of the medication except I remember it sounded to me like it was probably an enzyme of some sort. It sounded similar to phosphitase or something similar but that is not quite right. Sorry I can't remember.

I am just wondering if anyone on this site has tried this fat dissolving injections?

Celeste.

I searched "fat dissolving injections" and found lots of info. I would read about it before I did anything..this is a sample to what they said "

Lipodissolve and similar treatments use two chemicals, phosphatidylcholine, or PC, and sodium dioxycholate, or DC. Injections with the PC/DC mix aren't a treatment for obesity but a way to dissolve deposits of fat in certain areas.

Leslie Baumann, M.D. says:

"Every week, at least one patient asks me about the new "fat melting" lipodissolve injections that media reports have linked to the slimmer waistlines of celebrities like Britney Spears. Over the past few years, more and more doctors have been offering the treatment, and entire clinics devoted to the practice have sprung up all over the country. Alarmingly, it's now even possible to buy cheap home injection kits online.

I'd like to tell you what I tell my patients: Stay away! These injections are not FDA approved in the United States, have never been proven to work and may even be dangerous.

Lipodissolve involves injecting a compound called PCDC deep into the tissue. Sometimes it's referred to as Lipostabil, which is the name brand of a drug used to treat coronary artery disease in South Africa, Brazil, Italy and Germany.

Around 1995, doctors in Brazil began using Lipostabil off-label to target unwanted fat. However, after a few years they started to notice worrisome complications, including infections, skin death and extreme swelling around injected areas. Brazilian authorities were so concerned that they have since banned the practice -- that's really saying something because Brazil rarely bans products or cosmetic procedures."

The FDA has not approved this treatment. You could probably ask your doctor. Hugs, Grandma Sylvia

Sylvia,

Thank you for the info. I did search online, your right, these injections can have complications. I think if these fat dissolving injections worked well, we would be hearing more about them.

Celeste..I wish we did have something to dissolve fat! I am so bloated today and my abdominal lipomas are just killing me. There are ropes of them and it hurts to clear my throat or cough. It hurts to just sit forward. I have terrible spasyms of pain in the left lower quadrant going around to my back. I don't have time for this...we have flowers to plant! Boy was it hot today. Almost time for the pool to open..then the kid traffic will pick up...so I have to lay in a supply of kiddie food. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Grandma Sylvia

I think the heat just makes everything hurt worse. I just carry ice packs everywhere for a quick cool down. Helps some. It's also odd how the pain seems to center on a section at a time to intensify. Some days one area, another day someplace else.

THe homeopatic lady told me the computer treats my fat differently then other peoples fat . I don't know how the computer can tell but I had to go n tons of detox to correct the problem. I do feel a lot better and the trumors have gotten smaller. THanks for the info,Wendy

Wendy..you crack me up! I love your lipoma names. My opinion is that a lot of things appear to help at first as our brains are hoping that they will. Anything that helps you at all is great. I am so happy to hear that you feel better and that your lipomas are better. If you do nothing and try nothing..you may end up like me! My hope is that no one ends up like me! Like they say..."If I knew I was going to live so long..I would have taken better care of myself". Smile
