MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

......or at least this is what it must feel like.

48 yr old male, married, with a teenage daughter in college. I have battled depression secretly most of my adult life. Despite my illness I have served 22 years honorably in a reserve component of the military and run a successful business. I am fit for my age with no physical health problems, just a bad brain. No broken marriages, no life tragedies that are unspeakable, just a horrid genetic predisposition to what other people have horrible things cause them to have.

The last two days I haven't stopped crying, and I haven't cried previously since 9/11 except for when my mom passed away.

Really struggling with meds right now and the right mix. Patience isn't my strong suit and I don't have the luxury of checking myself into a happy farm for two months.

So I could really use all of your support and help and I will try to do the same.

Hi And welcome to the Group. I'm sorry, I hear you calling for help and thats a big part of depression. Also trying to find a medication that helps gets so frustrating , its very sad to say the least. Did your Dr. ever talk to you about PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) ? If not , we have several groups on here that explain what it is by video or you can join and they may say yes it sounds like you could have it.

It is very common for military men and woman to get this disorder. And there are some good medicines that make a difference in your life. Please talk to your Dr. about this possibility .

So hold on, no matter what med you are taking , all of them take time to work. We have a Military PTSD Group here also if your interested, you can belong to both or more if you want.

Welcome to MDj and come back and let us know howyou are doing..

Caring ,

Patty

Love and Peace, Patty

Halfabrain, welcome and I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. I am also 48, and have suffered with depression since I was 11. Unfortunately, I can't cry when I need to. When I am sleep deprived or in a manic episode (I have Bipolar disorder) I cry from frustration at work sometimes. I Hate that!

I think it's important for you to know that when you get the right mix of meds, you will start to get better. It's a hard road for sure! Take extra good care of yourself!

Just wanted to say hi and offer my support.

Depression is hard. It makes everything good in your life seem meaningless, and everything bad all-important. It doesn't need a reason to strike - I'm depressed for no logical reason, as well. But like everyone with depression, I know what it's like to feel like you do. Hope your meds, or anything else for that matter, can help you.

Hi Welcome Halfbrain. Depression is a struggle and I know I can relate as I imagine others can too with what you are saying. Finding the right meds and accepting depression is not easy. We are all here for similar reasons and to offer and receive support. Hope you will find this group a help to you. Rachele

We can tell you the medicine we take and if it helps us or not. But it's different for everyone, so your best to talk to your Dr. about it. I know I couldn't make it without medication to help me. But you may be different..so make an appt. to see your dr. Hope this helps you some!!

Hugs, Patty

What Patty said. There's only so much we can help with in terms of meds, but go ahead and post in the treatments section of the forum - you might find something helpful

Depression is a illness, a lot of military folks like myself keep secrets like this because of the stigma and potential loss of job. Stay strong.... You've been in a lot longer than me... (I'm almost 6 years Active Duty). My story is long and the stressors the military puts on people like me don't help the situation.
