I'm an Advocate

Hi all, I would like to clarify the last thread. It is not strictly forbidden to talk about suicide, What is totally against one of our few rules is to list ways, in any sense, to commit suidide.

As was said, we do not have the traiing or abilities to deal w/ people in crisis. If you want to come and discuss your feelings, that's ok. Another thing that's strictly forbidden is to say you are going to take your life and then sign off. I know, you're thinking if someone signed off, what diff? The diff is when the person wants to come back, the account may be deleted. Leaders can request that you change the post so that it doesn't sound like you're on your way out, or worse, suggesting ways for others. It's tricky, and we now have 3222 members - which means if everybody posted and we put up a thread asking what they thought was allowed in re discussion of suicide, we'd get 3223 responses.

Right from the bossmen:

To make things clear 'discussing the topic of suicide' is OK and so is sharing how bad you feel. The 'I am going to kill myself tonight' (with slight variations) is NOT.

As far as being banned, If you go too far w/ any discussion on the subject, and a leader sees the post, it's his or her responsibility to ask for a change, make the change, or, if what's written goes way over the limits, to click you out. We, as leasers, do not have the final say. When he ban you, the info all goes to Roy and he will either reinstate you or permanently. Think before you write. If Roy isn't on for a day (I know, dear Roy, you think you live here - and for the most part you probably do.) back to for a day - to the best of my knowledge, only Roy can delete you permanently. Tho I'd guess if Roy was away, Alon would handle the situation.

Peace,

Sylvia

NOTE: I can't imagine anyone is surprised that distracted driving has overtaken drunk driving as the number one cause of death on the road. Please, y'all, keep your eyes sharp when you drive. The guy in the next car could be on a computer in the dash board (whoever dreamed that up should have to watch autopsies), while the one behind you is texting. It's important to be aware of those around you. The kid who ended my second to last life was in a huge SUV and on the telephone.

From The Boss

Suicide talks are strictly against our terms of service as we don't have the ability or knowledge to deal with them.

Thank you

Peace

Ok here's the deal: Suicidal thoughts can and do tend to occur during depression or other forms of mental illness. In my opinion it's ok to say you are struggling with these thoughts and asking for support from the group. What is generally not acceptable to other members in the group and the administrator of MDJ, is stated you have plans to do this and describing what you will do and then not respond back on the board. No one wants to see a member hurting so much and making a decision online to take their own life. We can offer support for the feelings and recommend talking to someone about these feelings, friends, doctor, therapist, hotline and maybe going to your local hospital ER to be evaluated. The point is for your protection and the the sensitivities of other members as well, who may be feeling that way and can be a trigger for them. I hope I have clarified this to everyone and it makes sense. Rachele
