Sometimes I feel like I cause my own stress. I tend to worry too much about trivial things and they become inbedded in my mind until they cause me to lose it. The current example I would use is my ex wife put me through a tremendous amount of stress with her behavior prior to us seperating and divorcing. I am in a long term relationship with a wonderful girl and I project the past bad from my ex into my thinking about her. Is there a way to not be the source of my own stress?

I know the feeling. My past relationships always find a way into my present ones. I can't seem to shake the feeling that everyone is going to hurt me the same way. I think I messed up something really nice with this guy because I just kept projecting.

I wish I could say something to help. I'm working through a similar problem, so I don't know how.

My therapist is always telling me to stop over thinking and just live in the now. It's good advice if you can follow it.

Thank you, I will take your therapist's advice. I owe to my girlfriend, whom I deeply love, to be the best that I can be and I owe it to myself.

This is hard to do lovesBPgf but I have learned to do it. TOok me a longtime after me and my ex-husband divorced I had to learn to trust someone and see him for who he is and not compare the two because they are nothing alike. I met the one I am with right here on MDJ in 08 and he moved from Iowa to Tennessee to be with me. I am now extremely happy and what has helped me the most is remembering the past is the past for a reason and we live in the here and now and he is a great guys who deserves to not be compared to my past bad experinces. Everyday is a new day and a great day has been ever since he got here last Nov. and I do not see it ever changing. I wake up to the same great compaion each and everyday. I wish both of you the best in this dept. I do understand how hard it can be. Been there! Many Blessings!
Hugs and Blessings,
