from the Stress Management Support GroupSmile Actually, a group leader there suggested that I give you guys a try!!

I have just recently started taking Paxil, 20mgs, 1 tablet daily. My concern is with the apathy or "don't care" sensation that seems to accompany a lot of anti-d's.

Have some of you tried Paxil?? If so, what have your results been??

Thanks in advance and I look forward to being part of this group!!

Hi and welcome to this group Smile

I haven't tried paxil but I have had two other types of SSRI antidepressants, wich is the same type as paxil. Both these substances helped me at first but after a while the effect kind of wore of. I never experienced that "don't care" feeling as a side effect, tough, I was sometimes in that kind of mood before I started with any sort of anti depressant.. but it rather helped with it, not incresed it in any way. I googled paxil, and found out that it can cause a lot of weight gain, while the two I tried before before isn't as likely to cause that, so if you start to gain weight, you might want to talk to your doctor about switching. In general, I just think it's worth a try, and it can really help. If you start to feel side effects just talk to your doctor, and try something else, cause there's a lot of dofferent meds and we all react differently to all of them..

Good luck with your treatment Smile

take care!

xoxo

Hi Idagd,

Thanks so much for your response! I may go ahead and talk to my doctor anyway about switching, especially if weight gain is a major side effect. My weight is something that I've been working really hard on (and have lost 50lbs from my highest weight) and I sure don't want to go backwards because of a medicationDizzy

Thanks againSmile

Hi Bookworm, Paxil is one of the older anti-depressants. I don't know any on it but a few have tried it but didn't care for it. While many of the antidepressants are for depression they also at the same time can work for anxiety and obsessive or racing thoughts. It can be why you are concerned about the "not caring" feeling. For me, because I worry too much, the "not carring feeling" is more balanced for me. I care but may not worry as much on the meds. I take Pristiq. I really like it for my depression but for anxiety and worry, it's not as affective. I would talk to your doctor about any concerns or questions you have with a specific medication. Everyone's different and therefore their response to any given medication may be different too. Rachele

After my dad died in 1995 I used Paxil for several months. I did very well and lost 30 lbs during that time. It really helped me very much during that time.

My symptoms were withdrawel from the world. After a few weeks of taking it my desire to leave the house returned as well as waking up and desiring to get up.

When my mom died in 1999 doc tried me on Paxil, again, and it was the wrong med to take. My symptoms were far different than with my dad.

This time I was restless and couldn't be still. I was switched to Lexapro and did well. I took it for about a year.

Good luck with Paxil. Remember, there are many meds to help depression so always hold on to hope.
