MDJunction to me

"MDJunction to me is a life saver... when i first was diagnosed with Scheuermann's Disease i wrote a message to a page i found on google, hoping that they could help me.... you'd never know it but that weird feeling (you know that one where it feels like someone actually cares) came over me when i opened my email next day to find that someone on the other side of the world (at the American Medical Library)had read my message while i was sleeping, and there low and behold was the address to MDJunction.... well it is everything to me, i live it breathe it and love it!!!!! I have found many people who are struggling with similar issues banding together to help each other. It is the best place in the world, and i couldn't think of another place to go to meet so many lovely people....

thanks MDJunction

So I have noticed this pattern, it's been this way for a long time in school but it got much worse in college. As the end of the term approaches I get more depressed and I feel like giving up. No matter what my grades are they slip during this time because I get more and more afraid and have trouble driving to school. I'm still on my medications but the only thing that helps is the Xanax but I don't like that it gets worse this time of year.

I have the first of my finals tonight, and I'm scared but instead of being motivated to study or motivated at all, I just want to crawl back into bed and sleep until the term is over.

I get frustrated with myself because I know I have a disorder, I know I have troubles but I want to be functional and quitting school isn't an option.

Any thoughts?

Yes. Talk to your professors. Perhaps with a letter from your psychiatrist or doctor, you can probably have your tests given at a different time, privately, take-home...whatever will be less stressful for you. I know people who have had that done. Maybe you need a break before taking the exams...maybe you could get your exams given privately after the holiday break? Its worth talking to your professors about it. Don't be ashammed to ask for help! They really are not there to fail you. They want to see you succeed! Also, make sure you are getting regular sleep and eating healthy! A disruption in your sleep pattern can cause your depression to escalate!

I just saw that your first final is tonight...even without a letter from your doctor, still talk to your professor. Call right away and try to reach your professor if you don't feel able or ready to take the exam.

For future semesters, ask your professors if you can take periodic finals throughout the semester so you won't get so stressed during finals week. Spread it out!! They will most likely do whatever is necessary to make it less stressful for you. They don't want you to drop out! Good luck!

Thank you! I have tried to discuss things with some of my teachers and most have been receptive. It's just hard for them, I feel bad asking for anything that could be seen as special treatment.

You have a legitimate reason for special treatment and don't think you're the only one that is getting special treatment! It's not made public to everyone in your classes, but special treatment is being given when asked for!

also, the constant worry about others' perception can lead to a lot of anxiety and also depression. worrying that other people may see it as special treatment can only hurt your progress. yes that is much easier said than done.

but if you need to do it for you, then that's the way it is and you can be confident in your decision. few know what you are going through, so don't dwell on what perceptions 'might' be.

good luck with everything

Thanks seabass, that's actually exactly what happens. I've been diagnosed with social anxiety.
