I'm finding it increasingly hard to handle life's simple, every-day problems. I feel like I've lost my backbone and have become a pushover. The stupidest things are starting to get to me, like my annoying neighbors who think it's ok to tell me how to run my house, the sneaky people I work with who try to get things over on me. And I feel like I've lost the nerve to stick up for myself. Maybe if I stand up for myself more, it will improve my self esteem? And I just found out that my father heard about my being depressed a lot lately, and ajpparently he got angry. He said something like "nobody in MY family takes medicine for depression". His girlfriend stood up for me and said "well would you rather her drink herself to death like everybody else in the family?" I hope he doesn't say anything to me today. I need to get myself together somehow...I dunno.

Depression makes you feel like you can't deal with things like a "normal" person, everything feels extremely difficult, impossible at times. It can also make you feel anxiety about what other people are thinking or saying about you, even paranoid. My best advice is to completely ignore what others may think or say and get the help you need to live your life as you want to.

I really like your Dad's girfriend!!!! Excellent reply, she had.

Worry abou YOU not what others think, besides no one has to know your business if you go for therapy, take meds or not. This is your health you need to be concerned about.

Caring

Patty

JuliePup Depression can surely make you feel like you can't handle anything. It's not that you don't have a backbone hun your just depressed and not up to handling all of their junk.

I Like your dad's girlfriends answer. Sounds like dad is just not realizing how serious depression can be. You do what it takes to take care of yourself get the counseling if you need medicines and they help do that. In the end its your life and you have to do what is best for you. Many blessings to you!

Hi Julie and welcome to our depression group. Nobody will believe I'm at a loss for words, but I can't really add anything to what's been said except my own welcome. I can also tell you that you're now part of a big, loving family of people who care about each other.

Please let us know how you're doing. Since you've joined our family, we care about you, too.

Warm welcoming wishes, Sylvia

'I didn't have time to write a short [post].' Mark Twain wrote that one for me. LOL
'Wisdom is knowing when you can't be wise.'
'Life is what's happening while we are busy making other plans.'

NOTE: I can't imagine anyone is surprised that distracted driving has overtaken drunk driving as the number one cause of death on the road. Please, y'all, keep your eyes sharp when you drive. The guy in the next car could be on a computer in the dash board (whoever dreamed that up should have to watch autopsies), while the one behind you is texting. It's important to be aware of those around you. The kid who ended my second to last life was in a huge SUV and on the telephone.
