I was wondering if anyone has heard of, or is taking the new drug Pristiq? I started it two weeks ago.

Pristiq (generic name desvenlafaxine) is simply a metabolite (what a drug is converted to in your body) of the already popular antidepressant Effexor (generic name is venlafaxine). At some point as Effexor is broken down in your body it becomes Pristiq. Pristiq supposedly has less side effects and is easier to dose but the jury is still out on that. Basically Pristiq was developed because Wyeth is losing its patent on Effexor in a few years and needed a replacement. Same thing happened with Celexa (citalopram) and Lexapro (escitalopram) a few years ago. Let us know how you like it.

Thanks so much for the information. All I could really get from the insert was the easier dosing. I am not really seeing much of a difference right now except that it is difficult to show emotion. I had thet issue with wellbutrin. It was very hard to deal with. I will let you know if anything changes.

I received a call last week from the Diablo Clinical Research Group in Walnut Creek, CA.

They are getting ready to start a FM trial with this drug.

You would have to go off meds for 17 weeks and you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the placebo.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone already taking this drug.
