Thank you so much - I am wondering after this ordeal if I will be able to take narcotics again - going off of them is much more difficult than expected - but I seriously don't know what else to take - I tried acupuncture too - she wanted me to drastically change my diet too and I am nauseous with the pain so often I just couldn't do that part so I quit - I should try acupuncture - I hope you will keep me updated on how that goes? Try not to take the narcotics everyday if possible is my best adv...

Hi Bubblelivin. I agree with all the advice that ScorpioJ gave and the only piece I can add is to try and volunteer somewhere, whether it be at a hospital or an animal shelter. Not only is volunteering a good deed but there's also a physiological response known as helper's high that you get from helping others. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi Stelagite, my name is Joe. Acceptance is a valuable tool to have. Pain is a hard thing to accept because, well it hurts so much and to deny it would be much easier. But, I think acceptance, in the long run, will provide you with some clarity about your life. And, never stop looking for a cure, and always try to do things to help alleviate the pain and give you a sense of empowerment. Best of luck,

I have upper arm pain and I have been using arm/elbow compression sleeve to help ease the pain for the past few weeks. I will use the sleeve from morning until bed time, I only take it off when I go to bed.

I have got conflicting info about using the sleeve all the time from different people. Some said the sleeve helps healing and increase blood circulations, but some said the sleeve is restricting blood circulations so I should not be using it all day long for long term.

Also, does heat...

Thanks a million for your reply Scorpioj. :) I have been thinking about becoming an online tutor for people doing childcare courses such as Montessori etc. I have several childcare qualifications but as I can't work I can't make use of them. I have helped a few people out lately who were having a hard time putting their assignments together for a childcare course and my friend has been encouraging me to find out how to become an online tutor. So perhaps my recurring dream is trying to give me a ...

Which meds for which symptoms?

For me the Cymbalta is a kind of base line pain med, along with an opiod taken 3x/day regardless of pain level as a blanket pain management tool. I have another pain medication for the spasms and contractions of pre-dystonia from RSD symptoms, and yet another for breakthrough pain. I have heard of people being on both Cymbalt and Lyrica depending on how much and what type of pain is involved.

For nerve pain, the dosage of Cymbalta is less than for depres...

Hi ruths,
I do not know much about this, so if someone else does, it would be great if they could post the info. These are just my thoughts, I would have to research to know the validity of these statements, but I am willing to hazzard a guess. I would say it would depend on the make and quality of the recliner bed, I am sure they have different ones geared to your health issues and you would be best to try them in the store and on a trial basis if you could. They would need to have more suppor...

Hi spankney,
I am so sorry that your wife is feeling so lost and you want to help her, but you can't. She will have to go through her grief at her own pace. The best you can do is what you have been doing. Be there for her, support her by setting up and going with her to appointments. See if some more counselling can happen, She needs much support right now. Ask her what she needs from you, listen to her and be patient and understanding.

She has changed that is a fact. Pain changes us, who...

Hi ruths,
Welcome to the forum! I would check a specialty health store like the Shoppers Drug Mart (Sister Store to the regular pharmacy)it sells products to aid persons with disabilities. The Bed Buddy may have something. I have purchased booties to warm my feet, a back - moist heat pad (with a velcro strap to keep it on), that might work for you. They have different ones to choose from depending on where you need the heat.I hope this helps and you get some relief soon.
Hugs,

Yes, the psychological impact of chronic pain is difficult. When its bad enough that you can't stop thinking about it, and you worry that it might get even worse and you can't stop that --- yes, that is very hard. Maybe its kind of an anxiety thing, and something like Xanax might provide a temporary escape. But daily Xanax can be problematic too. A good pain doctor might have some better options for this, but you might have to try to explain to them that the worrying is just as bad as the pa...

Hello Ruths,

I hesitate to recommend anything specific because we all have different situations. But for a lumbar spine injury and subsequent shoulder and neck injuries, I've tried Tylenol-codeine #3, Vicodin, Tramadol, Flexeril, and Gabapentin. The last 4 had problematic side effects and really didn't help much. The Tylenol-codeine is more tolerable, and I will still take it occasionally if I'm in bad shape. But I mostly try to avoid meds because the benefit-to-risks-costs ratio just isn...

Yes I'm really down hurting anything that can go wrong is, so please excuse me for not coping well. I recently received this group hug that had this quote with it: Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.
- Joseph Campbell

I know that this was meant in all kindness, but when there is NO JOY to be found this just makes me feel worse. No comments expected here, but I just needed to get this out of my head.

I agree with the advice to start things as soon as possible and get them as much done as possible early on. Then if you need a depression day or have a bad pain day, you can take it, and not feel stressed about school work. I have been back in a small school for 2 years now. I am not taking a full load either which helps me, but not everyone can stretch out their classes like I can. I also suggest disability services but you have to come up with your own ideas of what you might need help wit...
