I have an anxiety disorder , but haven't been diagnosed with DPD . However I have experienced depersonalization , would like your thoughts on the following .

When I was a kid my parents fought all the time . As you can guess I was pretty stressed by this . I have this memory of seeing myself sitting on the flour in my room . Also when I was a kid I'd get this weird feeling that I was being watched ( A friend of mine put forward the theory that it was God watching me but I don't know ) . Anyone experience something similar ?

It could be but have you had anything recent?

When I have them I either feel like I am watching a movie instead of things be reality and if it's really bad I don't recognize my body parts as my own.

Yeah I had the nothing is real experience lately . Not really a thought but more of a strange feeling . Also I've looked the mirror and don't know the person looking back . So I almost never use the mirror except if I'm going somewhere and have to do my hair . More stuff to bring up in therapy . What do you think ?

Previous discussions I participated in:

hi Hun

Okay - so you do seem to be having experiences now (as opposed to just childhood experiences). That is a horse of a different color .

Sounds like dP to me then.

Also seems to be mild for now. So you ned to be thinking about triggers that are causing this. And you need to be thinking about how to get out of it .

Read over some of the other threads here on this forum. I am sure it will help you.

DP can also be a side effect of depression, too. I have both together - it stinks!

HI Gabs

I agree that depression can lead to dP. I would word it slightly differently - I would refer to the dP as a syndrome which is another distinctly identifiable condition which is being caused by a specific disease. In this case the disease is the depression and the dP is the syndrome.

Either way...it sucks! Smile Smile

My therapist told me to start writing things down like this

A: Activating event

B: Thoughts about the event

C: Feelings and emotions.

This way I can start to identify my thought process about certain events and tie my emotions to it. It will be a great way to figure out m triggers and start repathing my thought processs.
