ADs can trigger mania/hypomania in a person suffering with bipolar or a mood related disorder. Why did his doc prescribe these? He needs to check with a psych doc before getting medicated ideally. I'd advise that you let him get healthy, and see how things go - primary focus has to be getting his cyclo under control....

I keep track of my cycle - I tend to get angry/weepy/grumpy, so if I know it's that time of the month, it helps me deal with the mood swings. I find it much easier to calm myself if I know that the swing I'm feeling is due to a hormonal issue, then I just try to ride it out....

Hey all. I haven't been on here in eons. :y32b4:

I have been on my medication for more than a year now and it works for me. I don't get the highs anymore and the lows have abated to a very large extent.
I recently switched to my own medical aid (health insurance) and ran out of my old prescription. As a result I had to go without my meds for 2 weeks until I saw my pdoc.
During the 1st week I was a bit light headed and such due to the withdrawal from the antidepressants. The second week,...

That's so strange - my dad says I never slept when I was little, and all my memories are of staying up late! My other half thinks I have some sort of sleeping disorder, because he's caught me sleepwalking/acting out stuff in my sleep a few times, so I wonder if that's related to the bp....

Hi there... I was diagnosed the other week. At first I felt relief and forgave myself for some of my past behaviour. Then I felt shocked and scared. I am learning to understand and accept. I had meds for two weeks before I tried them.

Asking your doc to explain is indeed a good idea. Read what you can, I recommend The Cyclothymia Workbook - it answers a lot of questions and gives advice on how to live. Try not to make yourself fit into symptoms because your experience of it will different t...

You remind me of myself! I was so nervous about my college exam that I almost failed. I studied half the neccessary and a miracle point saved me. I can see this is an old post so I hope you passed your exam.

About self-diagnosis, I don't recommend it at all. You can create false symptoms (because mind is so tricky) or just get a useless label on yourself. Teenagers have normal mood swings, lack of identity, irritability, etc. Only a psychiatrist can diagnose you.

If you cannot tell people ...

I'm happy that you finally got a diagnosis! I hope you get better soon.

You can find great information in the Borderline Support Group. Also, I recommend you the book I Hate You, Don't Leave Me . It's a very famous book about Borderline Personality Disorder and I liked it a lot.
I'm glad somebody else seems to be in a similar situation to me! It helps to know that, I have thought over what you said and I think a therapist is a brilliant idea, I did try one afew years back but never clicked, I think that was more due to me not being ready. I'm also glad that you had positive support from the doctors, that is great to hear! Thankyou for your reply! This week I'm going to take your advice on board and look for therapists in my area. Thanks again....

I just went to Moodscope and took the test for today. But, I didn't realize I could flip the card over, so I only chose from the two facing up. Even with that I only got a 30%. Can't imagine what it would have been if I would have known to flip the card.

Hi there .... we could be sisters. I am totally sure my mother was bipolar ... she was an alcoholic and I think that's how she medicated herself. Her mood swings were horrid, especially for a little kid. I was terrified of her. And, now here I am with Cyclothymia, only now it can be treated. It's not your fault when these mood swings hit .... it's a chemical problem in the brain .... you did nothing to ask for this or to deserve it. I don't often have too many times anymore of feelin...

Hi everyone. I won't go into graphic detail, but I had a colonoscopy Weds. so that meant Tues. was the day of the purge. Well, because of all the meds. I take, my mouth is always dry, no matter how much I drink. I drank water all day, but about 3 AM felt nauseous, dizzy, and broke out in a cold sweat. I thought I was having a heart attack. Finally I got myself into bed and a girlfriend came and took me for the procedure. When I got there I was totally dehydrated .... I felt awful, b...

Do you know I am finding this as well recently. I was found to be on a dating site and talking to other men in a manic phase and I almost lost my husband in fact I do not know how he is still here after 7 years of my cyclothymia. But now I am low again I am ravaged with guilt and am over compensating with him trying to be more of everything for him. I find it all such hard work...
