Hi ya ppl's!

Liv, It's so great to hear that you are doing well. I wanted to throw in my 2 cents on the whole Mary Jane topic...

There is a capsule by the name of MARINOL that is the THC extract from marijuana and it is often used as an appetite stimulant and as an anti-emetic.. Your doctor can prescribe this to you it comes in several different mg capsules that look like air soft pellets.

Dave I hope you feel better soon seems we are in the same boat..

Unfortunately, there are many problems with Marinol. First, it does not have all the benefecial chemicals t6hat marijuana has as it has only delta-9-THC, no CBD, CBN, or other cannabinoids. Because of this, it is not nearly as effective. The other cannabinoids alter the effects of the THC and have effects of their own. Tolerance is a huge issue with this drug because the different profiles of chemicals in different strains of marijuana that include CBD and CBN make it so tolerance never gets out of control if you are smoking different marijuana regularly. Marinol may be helpful at first, but not for very long. I had a friend who had cancer and was prescribed this, but after a week or two, it really didn't do anything and switched back to marijuana as it was cheaper anyways. This is the last problem. It can be hard finding a doctor to prescribe this and if they do, the prescription is very expensive. And are you sure you can get this prescribed for Crohn's? The last I knew, it was only prescribed to cancer and AIDS patients, though if it is good for those, it would be just as good for Chron's.

Here is another article about marijuana and Crohn's disease. It is not jargon heavy at all, just talks about a pilot study in which marijuana was given to Crohn's disease patients. Many had fewer and shorter flareups and many were able to cut down the amount of medication they were taking.

If you wanna toke till you choke go ahead... Each to his own. I was making a simple legal alternative suggestion. Most people that hold professional job positions that are subject to RDT's (random drug tests) will not be able to take comfort in the Marijuana miracle. If I brought Marijuana on Post My Hubby would flip!! We have been active duty Army for almost 11 yrs. So I doubt I will ever know about this wonderful relief you guys have found..

I am not advocating breaking the law to anyone. There are 12 states in the US that do have medical marijuana laws. I am just stating the facts. The federal government cites Marinol as a reason why there is no nead for medical marijuana. And like I have said, cannabis can be taken orally as well, just like marinol, and more effective. And like I said, I do not think that Marinol is prescribed for Crohn's. I know it is only approved for chemo patients and AIDS patients and I don't think it is used off label.

What up Allie?!? Sorry I have been such a lousy friend not being in touch....how are you doing??? I haven't been on my myspace as much as normal because my girlfriends got me sucked into Facebook now! (Do you have one of those???) How are the kiddo's? Miss ya sista! I'll hit ya up on the old Myspace!

Thanks for the information about the Marinol. One of my friends mentioned that to me over the weekend. He was on it when he had cancer. I'm going for my Remicade infusion on Monday and I'm going to ask my doctor about it. It can't hurt!

Love ya!

Liv

I have learned that it is possible to have Marinol prescribed for Crohn's but it is rarely done in states without medical marijuana. That makes a lot of sense doesn't it? Hopefully you have a compassionate doctor who will help you.
