Hi-new to this group. I'm 24 years old & was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease since I was 14. Was on a few medications & was taken off of all of them when I was about 20 & was just put back on medication last year after having a pretty bad flare up ( my first flare up since having Crohn's ) I've always been very petite & I eat ALL the time but can never seem to gain weight ( stresing all the time may have something to do with that too ) but does anyone have that issue as well, if so, any advice?

Hi,

Welcome to the crohns site....do you want to gain weight?? i guess carbs would help..baked potatoes , mashed potatoes ....sweet potatoes...avacados...slide down foods ...have you tried protein powder??

Keep in touch and I hope your day went well and you are pain free.

Blessings

I'll echo Syarshine's idea of protein powder. I would also highly recommend a nutritionist with some knowledge of Crohn's. When things were really bad, I was lucky because my sister is a dietician at a hospital in Vermont and helped me along. If you contact me off list, she me be able to locate someone in your area.

Thanks so much for writing me! I honestly just relaxed & stayed positive on getting better & hoped that I would. My boss actually referred me to my GI doctor & I don't know what I'd do without him, I feel 100% times better then what I did this time last year. He put me on the right kind of medications & gave me a list of foods that I could eat & foods that I should stay away from. I was able to eat basically anything but told to stay away from fruit, raw veggies, dairy, nuts, stuff like that. I stuck with that diet for a little while until I felt maybe I could try & start eating some of the other things that could upset my stomach. Sometimes some food will upset my stomach & sometimes they don't, guess it's really more trial & error. I have been feeling great with my Crohn's lately & now just trying to feel better with my OCD/aniexty. I'm gonna try the protein powder idea & hopefully that works! I have been drinking ensure as well ( sometimes even mixing it in milkshakes ) but haven't really kept up with it. Also muscle milk too. Thanks again for writing me & please keep in touch! =)

When I am on the prednisone, food don't seem to bother me as much. But now that I am tapering off,I have to watch what I eat!
