How serious is blood/mucus in the stools? I am fine most of the week with minor discomforts but great energy. But then once a week I'm in the bathroom all day and usually notice blood. Can't tell if this is serious enough to see my GI doctor. I kind of don't want to see him, since he said that the next step for me is immuno-suppressants. I just got off steroids a month ago, so that's not an option anymore for me. (I took Entocort for the maximum time of 3 months). Immuno-suppressants just sound scary to me, like they could have a lot of ugly side effects. Any thoughts?

Please make an appt or at least call your GI my daughter had blood and mucus in her stool and we waited she was feeling fine and if I could do it again I would of took her at the first signs, she ended up in the hosipital for 30 days by the time we got her there the infection was so bad she ended up having surgery and now has an ostomy her blood loss was minimal at first but with in her stay she had to have 17 bags of blood, she is on endocort and has been for 4 mos she tried mp6 but she could not handle the side effects so for now she is just taking endocort she is set for a reversal in nov. I have found out the hard way it is better to be safe than sorry.

I second that notion to the above post. I probably had the disease for years and it slowly devoured me. I was misdiagnosed for IBS instead and took the wrong medication because of that. Then when finally diagnosed I had to have surgery after being in the hospital 3 seperate times. Now since surgery I've been great but it's slowly coming back and I am making every effort to get to my out of state doctor to get some help/advice on how to handle this. I'm even taking Mercaptopurine which is an immuno suppressant. It seems to help but the help is slow to show positive results. Remicade is like an instant type of relief treatment but is expensive.

I would definitely suggest to check it out immediately.

Hi, I started taking immune supressant prescriptions about a year and a half ago. It took me a full two years to get into remission because of the doctors trying many different kinds. They said that it appeared that I had this illness for a very long time together and obviously untreated. I'm on the Imuran and they kept increasing the dosage to where I'm on 3 pills a day!! The one thing I will say is that they do knock your immune system down. I was very weak, throughout it all lost 30 lbs and I kept getting sick. I finally went into remission but before I did I had bronchitis a few times, Pericarditis, strep throat a few times and now I'm anemic. But this is the medicine that helped me. Now after being on it for a year I believe I'm coming out of remission. I'm feeling horrible lately. I honestly feel it's the only way to go without surgery...
