I got a 60 pilll supply of Vicodin ES on te 15th plus I had about 70 Darvocet. I know HAVE 1 Darvocet and 28 Vicodin in about a week.J am beside myself on how to get through to DRS that it just does not work. I feel like I am going to kill myself from an accidental overdose, but the pain is unbearable.I hate snapping at others because of the pain I have 5 DRS and they don't seem to listen. They tell me if the pains that bad I need to go to emergency. I can't go there everyday for some pain meds. It's terrible but at times I think about starting to smoke marajuania just to get some relief. I have always been against drugs, but I am getting to a point where they are giving me no choice.

Does anyone have as much trouble as I do getting the DRS. to give pain medication that works ?

They ued to give me percocet and durgisic patches till all the media on addication starting getting strong. I could use some advise on approuching drs. and asking for the right thing, without feeling like a drug addct.

Thanks

Hey hopeandfaith, sorry to hear that you are going through this pain with no relief. I for one, know how it is to be in your shoes in this matter. When I am in pain, the only thing i have to take is some weak over the counter tylenol and tylenol PM. Tylenol by itself does nothing for me really, but i take it anyway because its either that or nothing at all.

My docs will NOT give me vicodin or anything that has a narcotic in it, because they think I dont NEED it. They used to give it to me before and after my surgery for a limited time and that was it. They seemed to look at me as an addict because I was asking for it often because they would give me like 15 pill prescription or 30 if i am lucky. They would say to me "Take it ONLY when you NEED it". I am like ok, so i NEED it often! So, i ended up being taken off of it eventually and it wasnt fun at all Sad. Going from Vicodin to over the counter tylenol was really rough and i used to wonder why do i have to suffer like this? I understand they dont want to be responsible if the patient becomes addicted, but why give it in the first place then? because when your used to take over the counter medicine and then given a narcotic pain killer and then you have to go back to the weak stuff is really frustrating. To me its like given a homeless person a million dollars and telling them not to spend it.

I wish I could give you some advice, because i actually need it myself WinkI hope you can find a way to approach them without getting treated like an addict like some of us do.

I feel you guys on the pain issue. I have been dealing with endometriosis since I was 15 and the doctors always told me it was just normal cramps and that I was over exaggerating. It was almost 10 years later before I had a diagnosis of stage 4 endo. My DR said it was the worst case he had seen in his 20 something years fo practice. Even knowing that I was in pain he does not want me to take pain meds. I have done pretty good about not taking them unless I'm in so much pain I am litterally shaking, but it's not because I'm worried about addiction. My DR explained that if you take narcotics to often, you don't just become addicted, you start to build a tolerance, so you have to take a stronger dose more often, but eventually it will no longer work and the next step is a pain pump, which they will only do in extreme circumstances (ie. to make you comfory if you have a terminal illness and you're not expected to be around much longer) and I personally don't want to be dopped up all the time.

I have found releif from pain works best when you learn to work with it. I try different things or combinations of things like herbal remedies and relaxation techniques that help me deal so that I only end up taking the narcs. about twice a year. I really hope that this helps at least in some way. You're doctors really should explain things better, they obviously don't know what you're going through or they would, it's a good thing we have each other!! Smile

I'm tired of crying myself to sleep. This has ben one of my worst months ever. I hate pretending I'm fine. I hate trying to act like my life is so great, like everything is ok. when the truth is so far from that. i'm not ok. I don't have a doctor. I finally had to be taken to the er, they say i have way too many white blood cells, but they can't help me, and my doctor won't see me anymore cuz I still didn't get insurance. I feel your pain. I am going through the same thing and I have health insurance. The problem is the pain is so bad and nobody seems to believe you. My Dr. was giving me hydrocodone but wouldn't give me anymore than 2 tablets a day which doesn't even scratch the surface and now he just told me he won't give me anymore until I seek a second opinion or go to a pain management doctor. This is rediculous- even with insurance I dont have all this extra money for co-pays etc.

I dont even know what a pain management doctor does. Do they give you pain meds?

I'm with you I hate Crohn's and I hate doctors. I can't take this anymore. These doctors need to understand that there are legitimate reasons for pain meds and not everyone is abusing them. Its beyond rediculous.

Well here I am again back at square one. I tried to make an appointment today for a pain management specialist and was told they only treat spinal and lumbar injuries. So what the hell am I supposed to do now? My doctor won't give me anymore hydrocodone and told me to go to a pain management doctor and they won't treat me. This is absolutely rediculous. It's like a freakin 3 ring circus trying to get the pain meds that are needed from these damn doctors. I am so frustrated and don't know what I am going to do now.

Can anyone out there recommend a doctor to me in the Houston area that will give me pain meds for my Crohn's disease?!?! Please help, I'm desperate.

I would tell your doctor that if he will not give you the meds you need to function, than he needs to get you an appointment with someone who can, call the office everyday if need be, that usually works for me!! Wink

Be careful when using narcotics to manage pain because you can get yourself into trouble. I am not referring to addiction. I am referring to constipation. You may need to take a stool softener with each dose if necessary.

I take Percocet for pain (4 fistula's) I try not use them unless the throbbing pain is so bad I just can't stand it. It took alot of "coaching" to get my doctors to understand what the pain felt like and that I was entitled to relief from it. If your doctors do not have your best interest at heart perhaps you may need to doctor shop for doctors that will put your health and well-being first.

Thank you for your advice. I am already taking a stool softener because of the pain meds. My worry is that my doctor just recently told me he won't give them to me anymore and I need to get a second opinion or go to a pain doctor. I only have a script now for 2 a day from my current doctor which isn't cutting it and I'm afraid I'm gonna run out before I can get some more.

So I have an appt. with a new doc on Monday and am trying to find a pain doctor that will treat me. So far no luck all I can find are pain doctors that treat spinal injuries. Sad
