I have all my life been plus sized and prayed to lose weight well this year thanks to crohns disease I have. But now i am worried when will it stop?

I weighed 315 in April 2009

As of 12/27/09 I weigh 243lbs!! 72 Pounds with no effort... I did however change my diet slightly elimating sodas and all carbonated beverages and cutting back on red meat and pork...

Has anyone else experienced such as drastic weight loss if so did you gain it back? or when did u stop losing?

And do you guys think i am losing so much because i was so over weight to began?

First off you are not losing the weight because you are overweight. You are losing it because of crohns. It can be a drastic change. I have always been small and top out at my heaviest 145. I went down to 108 within 3 months last year. Once before to 80 lbs. So you may have some extra weight on you but you need to be very careful and let your GI know. Its not the same as trying a diet to lose weight. You are losing all your important nutrients by dropping so fast. Don't want to scare you but just let him know. And elimiating the sodas has probably helped. I drink 7ups now and no other soft drinks. I am finally back at my "normal" weight after a severe flare last year. My first sign that I am getting sick is the lbs shedding without any special change in my diet. Let us know how you're doing.

I am in consistent contact with my GI ( a bit of a nuisance to tell the truth) he is aware of my weight loss and how drastic it has been, but shows no real concern even while on steriods i gained very little like 5 lbs. I guess i rationalize it because while i do eat (most of the time) i eat way smaller portions trying to control the pain. So maybe the calorie cut back adds to it. I dont mind the lost at this time but i would like for it to stop at a certain point...

80lbs wow that had to be very scary for you

Instead of telling him you're losing weight maybe try saying shedding weight. Thats what it is. He really should be looking after that. I know you want to lose a few pounds but you have to be very careful having crohns, as I'm sure you are finding out. When my surgeon saw me in Jan 08 he kept talking about how much weight I had gained, I was like 80-120 pounds all the times he'd seen me. Little did he know or me I was getting ready for a major flare from my symptoms I was going thru. THus the reason I was seeing him. I think he looked at me and thought I was a healthy weight and ignored what my symptoms were. If you go in looking decent they assume you are just fine. I can take hours getting ready for a Doctor visit but if I didn't I'm sure I would scare them from my appearance. lols

I am looking to change GIs because I am in constant pain and he keeps telling me that I am doing well and the amount of inflammation I have shouldn't be causing that much pain

Msunek,

I am in a very similar situation. I've always wanted to lose weight and never found the strength or determination to do it.

Now with Crohn's, I have lost 36 pounds so far in 10 weeks. It seems almost too easy, but when I think about it, there's nothing easy about this constant pain and the stress of dealing with this illness.

Forget regret or life is yours to miss...
