Hi

I've been MIA again. My hubby was in excruciating pain. When the nurse from hospice came last week - he brought up the fact that he had been diagnosed with gout years ago and he was wondering if that was a large part of the pain he was in. She checked out his hands and feet and talked to the doctor. Long story made short - it is gout. The doctor prescribed colchicine for the gout to start. When we checked it out online - it mentioned that sometimes it helps patients with heart or lung problems. It helped with the gout - but it really helped the breathing. It was incredible. The loud sounds of SOB decreased so much. He was able to get up, able to eat his meals without as much SOB and felt better than he had in months. He has been switched over to another medication to prevent the gout - but the effects of the colchicine are still there - easier breathing. Don't know how long it's going to last but it sure has made a difference.

Gail

Wow is that ever weird!!! How the heck are you doing? You must be totally wiped out. I feel for ya girl.

My husband has gout too but they never prescribed anything that I know of. Maybe I better check around huh? Just kidding. I hope his breathing stays good. That's awesome.

Take care and don't be a stranger. We love hearing from you.

Hi Sue,

The medicine is actually called colchrys - not a single ingredient colchicine. It says in the information that doctors sometimes use it for heart and lung treatments.

I'm not a doctor so I only know what they tell me and what I can find out from my sisters and nieces who are all nurses and other sources.

Have to go "the bear" is stirring around and would probably like some breakfast.

yep, feeling wiped out Smile but the sun is shining and it's supposed to get up in the 60's so how bad can it be?

Love and hugs,

Gail

Thanks Gail.

I hope you at least get to treat yourself a little bit to like a facial, or good soak in the tub with some good stuff like Dead Sea Salts.

Sue

Hi Sue,

Here I am MIA again. Hope you are doing well.

The colchrys was only for gout when it is imflamed - and my hubby was given a different medication afterwards - allopurinol. The pain has been coming back and the breathing is almost as bad as it was before he took the colchrys.

Trying to find out about lifts chairs. Thought I might start a new discussion to see if anyone has anything to share.

Sometimes, I think a shower is a treat - a cup of tea or coffee first thing in the morning before my hubby wakes up.

Decided to try dieting again. I call it my "practicing to be on a diet" diet. I diet for breakfast and lunch, eat a healthy dinner (still watching what I eat) and lay off the desserts. If I practice being on a diet - and I have a cookie - I don't beat myself up over it. I've been practicing for about ten days and have lost eight pounds. Yay!

Love, hugs and prayers,

Gail

That's amazing, and such great news! I'm so happy for you and especially your husband for feeling better after getting that treated! I hope he continues to feel well and everything is more uphill then down for you both. I was reading up on some information on home remedies to help keep COPD at bay and I did find quite a bit of information here and great home remedies to help those with COPD. I hope this information helps you as it did for me, I wish you all the best!

Hi FriendtoCats What a neat handle. How are you doing at finding home remedies for COPD? My hubby uses several OTC meds.

Hi friendtocats! wow, that's a mouthfull. Let me guess. You probably own a few cats? I have a dog but used to own a simese. Loved him! He got to where he wouldn't stay at home. Anyway, I read your article and found it very interesting. I take 2tablets of fish oil every night. Do you have copd, or are you a smoker, and afraid you might get it? I have never smoked, but I took a spirometry back in December of last year, and found I have a mild obstructive disease. It started with a cough, which led to weezing, which led to shortness of breath. I understand you wanting to keep it at bay. I don't want mine to get any worse myself. I would like to welcome you to our group, and hope you stick around and let us get to know you a little better!

Thank you all for the welcome Smile Yes I own two kitties and recently got a new puppy as well. I grew up around many different animals in the home, mostly cats. By the time I had acquired a place of my own my parents had around 8 cats, 4 of them brand new kittens born to our two fluffy Persian cats Silly I love animals and I find their unconditional love back to be very comforting. Anyway, I really don't smoke, but my husband does and it scares me everyday that he may develop COPD as it runs in the family. I have tried to convince him to stop, however it seems to be out of the question at this moment.
