My headache started two weeks ago on Wednesday. I took Advil as I always do for headaches. It didn't go away. I took more and no improvement. I went to the doctor five days later and he gave told me it sounded like and sinus infection. I took the meds for 3 days and ended up in the hospital. CT and Sinus Scan showed nothing. I was sent to a neurologist who diagnosed me with migraines. I was given Axert and Medrol. I took it for 3 days and no improvement. He then gave me Amerge to try, no improvement.

The pain is a constant tension type pain. Ranging from about a 3 to a 7 (1-10 scale) It strengthes and weakens but NEVER goes away. I am on my 13th day of the headache and am very frustrated. I am going to call the doctor back tomorrow and mention NDPH and see what he says. Any advice will help me!!!

Hi Anna, sorry no one has answered before. I have never surfed outside the NDPH board before so I didn't see you out here. What did your doctor say? I would assume he told you it is too soon to tell? For your sake I hope your doctor is right because your prognosis is a lot better with migraines than with NDPH. I hope things have improved for you and that your doctor has found something that works or at least helps a little. For what it is worth I understand. Reading your post brought back all the frustration and the worry and stress (and PAIN) of my first few weeks wondering what on earth just happened to me and how am I supposed to get through everything I am supposed to be doing now. It was not a happy few weeks. Even if your headache does end up chronic, all of life is not as chaotic, scary or miserable as the first few weeks and even months. I hope you don't have to find out how to cope (cause I hope your neuro has helped by now) but if you do you will find things that work for you. I would be happy to tell you some of what helps me and you are welcome to come over to the NDPH board even before you get a diagnosis if you need help dealing with constant head pain. Again I am sorry I didn't see you before now and I hope you don't need my advice anymore. Mary

Although the headache is still there, it has lessened in intensity. I stopped all migrane meds, including Tompamx which was horrible! I was put on muscle relaxers and Lexapro, an anti depressant. I'm not sure if they are the cause of the lessened intensity. I go back in two weeks to have a follow up and move forward with finding what is wrong with me. You are right that even though it's still there, the frustration and stress have lessened. Thanks for your kind words. I didn't realize I posted outside of the NDPH board. I will have to go over there later and repost. It can be a little confusing on this forum.

Hi Anna, It can be a bit confusing. I didn't even know this general part was here until the day I saw your post. I am glad the headache is lessening whatever the reason. It could be the medications depending on what the root cause is. If it is in any way tension related the muscle relaxers will help, even if the tension was not the root cause but came because you were already in pain. It can start to cycle if that makes sense. I am still hoping that you do not have NDPH, because it is such a bad diagnosis to get. Just about any other headache type is better (I don't know about tumors and stuff ...I wouldn't want that either....but besides those). I am very glad things are looking better for you both in terms of the pain and the coping with it. I think it is extremely positive that they have already found something that helps with your pain level. It took months of trying different medications to find anything that reduced my pain at all and over a year to get it to where I am now, which is feeling like myself if I don't overdo or get in light or noisy places. I am still not able to work a job or drive, but I am back to feeling like a human. Whatever your diagnosis turns out to be I am so glad you are doing better and I hope it continues to improve to the point that you don't have a headache anymore and can go back to normal life. Mary
