Here's a good tip that Barbo posted in the General Forum. Thanks so much Barbo!!!

"I've disovered another way to cut my sodium. I eat a lot of tuna, salmon, chicken and egg salads. Now I use half mayo and half sour cream. Mayo has 90mgs sodium per Tbls. Sour cream only has 15 for two Tbls. Taste good and cuts back.

I like it!!"

Note 3 oz canned tuna about 300 mg, canned pink salmon 470. Fresh/frozen less than 100 mg each.
Peace be with you,

Mike

Of course Mike is right about fresh and most frozen fish. The nutrition counselor we met with suggested that if we used canned tuna on occasion, that we should drain and rinse, and drain again to reduce sodium content. Even basic tuna packed in "water" has vegetable broth and salt added.

Most of the fish I eat is fresh or fresh frozen. You are right the canned has so much sodium. Plus I watch the local sales and try to buy in bulk then break down and freeze in serving size. Saves a little money! I did buy some trout recently and I have never made it. Any ideas?

Trout is best pan fried, but since people go back country fishing in streams for trout I bet it'd be great grilled, a little pepper, olive oil and lemon sounds good to me.
Peace be with you,

Mike

The sour cream tip worked! The taste didn't change and Jerry never knew. Thanks for the tip!

letsdance, the things you caregivers do that we never know about! I'll let Perri know about this one. Why not mayo and yogurt, if you want something a little thicker you could use greek style yogurt it's a little firmer.
Peace be with you,

Mike
