Hi,

I am new here. I have been diagnosed since last year after a gallbladder surgery and liver biopsy. I am scared. Any help would be appreciated.

hurtnfurcertin,

I know its scary, treatment really depends on the cause of cirrhosis. Usually they try to stop whatever is causing the damage and this prevents futher damage.

Cirhosis is a horrible disease with no cure, but there is alot of hope. Do you know what stage you are in?If you have questions ask away.

Again welcome to the group.

mpmom,

Thank you for the reply. I am going to have another biopsy soon. I can't find the record of the first but if I remember correctly I think it was stage 3. I see my doc again on the 7th so I'll know more then. I also have to get some more bloodwork done, which I should have done today but I forgot about it, lol. I am just so tired it's hard to find the energy to do anything. I will keep in touch as I learn more. I know I will have many questions and need a lot of support. I am sick of being sick. This isn't my only illness I'm dealing with. I wish you a great day.

hurtnfurcertin,

First let me expain about the biopsy.

Biopsys show liver changes , These changes include things like inflamation which is classed by grade 1 thru 4 and fibrosis (scarring) stage 1-4

Stage 4 is cirrhosis, This just means that you have cirrhosis not how advanced it is

Cirrosis Has 3 stages

A. Compensated ( not very sick)

B. Beginning to decompensate ( complications starting to appear)

C. Decompensated ( End Stage )

These stages are determined by the ctp score points given for certain lab work and complications. If you want to know more read my diary entry CTP score

You need you Bilirubin level, Your Albumin level and your PT/INR. You gets points if you have ascites and encephalopathy

Let me know how your appointment goes

yes. portal hypertension although serious can be treated with medications commonlt used to treat hypertension. If they can keep the pressure in the veins low enough it will prevent ( or at lest slow down the developement of complications like varices and ascites it is the developement of these complications as well as changes in the level of bilirubin and albumin that change you to the level of decompensation
