Andre, you have every right to be confused. According to our many well-informed group members, your lactulose should send you to the bathroom several times a day. If you have chest pain all the time, you should be seen by the cardiologist. You did not indicate the cause of your cirrhosis; as our members know, at least 90 different conditions can cause cirrhosis. If you have one or more conditions contributing, it is all the more important to make sure your doctors are aware of ALL of your conditions. Perhaps one of the group members from Canada can give you some information on how to seek medical care if you are having trouble with access to doctors. Good luck. (I'm sure other info will be coming soon from the group.)
Sincerely, Mo

Welcome Aboard Andre!

Yes, Lactulose should be sending you to the potty. My husband (who has End Stage Liver Failure) was told that you are suppose to have 3-5 bowel movements a day.

I don't know what your dosage is but ask your doctor about taking more. You have other health issues so I can only guess your diet requirements so ask your doctor.

Nothing is more annoying then doctors saying you have this, this and this have a nice day! Make them give you more detail. I hope you have a Hepetologist (sp?).

Keep records! Get copies of everything - doctors notes, labs, scans and keep notes yourself. I have my husbands stuff in a huge notebook and on my computer.

You'll be getting plenty of help here. Vent, scream and cry - this is where you can to do it!

Welcome to the group Andre.

I ditto what everyone else is saying. Lactulose should send you to the bathroom quite often. My husband is on it also along with another pill and other pills for different things. The hepatologist wants my husband to have at least 3 bowel movements a day, he is averaging 2.
