May I make a suggestion and invite Aaron and Guitar to the new Alcoholic Liver Disease support group. Moonwatcher posted an excellent summation of diseases with continued drinking. It may alleviate some fears.

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.

Congratulations on being sober for 8 months. That's a big Deal. However it often takes a couple of years to show real healing after all alcohol is removed and most patients feel worse on and off during this time. After all it's not just your liver that has to heal but your entire body and it didn't get in this shape overnight.

You're doing what you need to do.

Of course if you're unhappy with your Dr you should find another. But the healing process will be the same even if you know more from extra test.

Hey longroadgal!

Welcome to the group! You may certainly join any group on MDJunction that you feel like you belong to. All we ask is that you stick to the topic of the group. The Cirrhosis group for issues or comments about cirrhosis itself, especially if you have officially been diagnosed. In the ALD group we deal with those that have not been officially diagnosed with cirrhosis, who have had a history of alcohol abuse and who are concerned about the current state of their liver. Neither group is set up to deal with an active addiction--there are other groups for that purpose.

As MommaMac mentioned above, Moonwatcher just started a very interesting, very well laid out and extremely informative discussion on "What I've Learned About Alcoholic Liver Disease". Everyone who has damaged their liver thru alcohol usage should read this piece!!!

Thank you to all who have responded. The link from Moonwatcher was extremely helpful. It's reassuring. I've been struggling with bad thoughts this last week -Relapse thinking - and this was the boost I needed.

My sincerest thank-you to all who help me, and others on this site.
