MDJunction to me

jayna01"My name is Jayna and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much MDJunction has meant to me. I always felt so alone before I joined in April of 2012. I felt like there wasn't anyone that really cared about me and what I was going through. I felt like there was no one that would truly listen to me in what I was feeling. Nobody was there for me. That is before I found MDJ!

I have found and met such good people on these forums. I never ever knew there were such compassionate people before MDJ. It's also nice to know that I can come here anytime and get support for what I am feeling. I feel like I have met some wonderful life long friends. It is also an outlet for me to try and help other people that are hurting. It gives me a good feeling inside and gives me self confidence in helping other people.

I hope MDJ will be as good for you as it has been for me! Many Blessings and Much love.

Dave i had the same problem when i quit drinking. It took a good 8 months before everything became somewhat normal again..I wouldnt go for 5 or 6the days and often wondered where all it was going . When i did go i was like really thats all i get. My GI said of course your guts are messed up you tortured them for years. I'm 14 months no drink and finally back enjoying..well lets say my quiet time on schedule.

Hey Dave! I appreciate the pun but please try to soften it (get it?) up in the future.

After 6 months of a diagnosis of Cirrhosis, the Docs don't know how much of her condition is "acute" and how much will be permanent. It looks like you may have dodged the first bullet.

I'm no Doc, but I'm guessing you are among the 25 percent of alcoholics whose livers will not tolerate the alcohol assault. I suggest you search through this forum and see for yourself how horrible liver disease can be.

Congrats on your sobriety! I know that is a real accomplishment.

Just ordered Dr. Sandra Cabot's book 'loving your liver'. Figured that may give me some guidance. Noticing that my stomach is becoming more distended (right side especially), constant issues with bowel habits, loss of appetite, some slight weight loss, etc. All the signs. Yet, have not seen a specialist yet. Guess I am asking if anyone has particular advise on what diet I should force upon myself, and what exercises I should do to attempt at loosing the liver roll? I understand or heard that it is dangerous to lose too much weight too quickly. Problem is - I'm 5'9 and weigh 175lbs. Which is not totally overweight. Maybe by 10lbs....I am hoping this book I ordered gives me diet advise, etc, however until it arrives, I will take any feedback. I would imagine a lot of walking/cardio, and at least 2,000 calories a day, right? I appreciate anyone's feedback, and more importantly, I hope everyone is doing well!

Hi Dave, I know the livers two favorite nutrients are phospholipids and choline, and EGGS have more lecithin (phosphatidylcholine) phospholipids and choline than anything else your likely to eat.

Also... Coffee has been shown to lower GGT, another liver enzyme that indicates inflammation. You need the fresh brewed stuff, not instant, and the darker roasts have less caffeine than the lighter blends. I never messed around with decaf and I've read the chemicals the use to decaffinate coffee can be toxic so if the real deal doesn't rattle your cage too much I think this is best.

Breakfast may be your most important meal of the day!

What does the liver hate? Well besides alcohol, deep fried foods are mentioned more often than anything else I've seen, so you may want to avoid anything out of the fryer.

Fructose is also often mentioned as irritating to the liver... I like ice tea instead of soda when I dine out and I really think this helps.

The healthiest meals I can actually look forward to are a Chinese stir fry with some egg drop soup and an egg roll. Lots of veg, not so much meat.

One of the biggest surprises I found food wise was when I read that "theanine" in green tea was very good at calming the anxious mind, and I found this to be true in a very big way. Green tea was my saving grace during my recovery, and I still drink it every day now. Try it and see if it works as well for you as it did for me!

Hope things start looking up for you SOON!

If caffeine lows GGT then I must be doing something wrong. One of my bad habits is about a pot a day of wonderful brewed coffee, probably two pots when husband is home on weekends. My GGT and ALP continue to steadily rise........not working here.

I also eat alot of eggs, probably one every other day. I am progressing so that isn't helping either. Maybe more broccoli is required??

Take your time to smell the roses, and always follow your heart.

Hi SSS, Looked into the coffee/GGT thing and it's very interesting.

Apparently, the effect is more pronounced in both males and drinkers. This might explain your lack of benefit.

Look Here: http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/content/27/3/438.full.pdf

Interesting they also looked at green tea and found it also helped males a bit, but again, not females.
