I hate to start another conversation about BM's and lactulose and all that but I have a question....

I have been taking lactulose these past few days like it was water....about every four hours taking 30 ml (two tablespoons I think that is).

Problem is I haven't 'gone' for about 3 days. I think today would be day 4. I haven't been well so I haven't eaten much besides frozen peaches and smoothies but yesterday I felt well enough to eat a meal. So I thought that would move things along. Nothing.

So, how long should I let this go before I do more? I probably would call my doc tomorrow anyway, but should I do something more? I have some stool softener called Senekot here I could take not sure if I should with all that lactulose. I could go to ER but that may not be appropriate. Wait it out?? I know being on the narcotic patch makes me more constipated and beleive it or not I don't feel too foggy (some but not overly)...just not sure what else I can do. Drinking lots of water, etc etc.

Wow! When hubby got like that he did what you did and added Mirolax and it worked instantly.

That's a scarry time for me, caregiver, because it makes me paranoid into watching for HE.

Someone (Mike) once told me, follow your instinct, if you feel you should go to the ER have someone take you.

Hope You Feel Beeter Soon....

BIG HUG!

Happy Thoughts!

Marg - not to get too personal but this question might help you, me, and others...do you feel the "NEED" to go and "CAN'T" - or just concerned that you're not going? Ru

Marg,

I would call the Dr today. 4 days are too long. Constipation happens even when on lactulose. You may want to try a enema also.

Even with Lactulose I have to increase my fiber at times. Applesauce and such.

Marg, I would get some attention for this soon. Who wants an obstruction and all *those* complications?
Sincerely, Mo

Call the doc. Increase the lactulose to every couple of hours to get results. No waiting on this
Journey well,
Robyn

Increased lactulose and took Senekot which is a stool softener. Nothing.

Increased lactulose more and took a bowel stimulant called Codulax (bisacodyl). Small relief, still feel full and like more should come but nothing yet.

Suffice it to say I am sleepy and a bit foggy and can't say the right words right now. If this doesn't work going to doctor whether it is office, medi clinic or ER. Enough already. Been eating (feel very full) only vegtables so I have fiber and lots of water.

This sucks.

If you are feeling groggy, time to get in a clinic or ER ASAP!
