My husband was diagnosed with cirrhosis back in october,he stopped drinking for 2 months and back to his usual 20 to 30 cans of beer a day,he dosent eat much and refused to go to the dr.I see him scratching all the time and his ankles and feet are so swollen and discolored,I seperated a year ago because I have been sober 29 years and could not take it anymore,I still visit with the family and I just dont know what to expect next.Has anyone seen this before,thank you this is my first time here.

There are a few things effective to help with the itching. My favorite was [generic] Gold Bond with the active ingredient - menthol.

Thank you very much,i just wonder how long he can go on like this and what other symptoms that he will have,I am so worried that my son is going to find him bleeding or even death

This is where I think doctors should have printed info to give to patients who are new to this disease so that they know what to look for. I never knew til recently that itchy palms had to do with cirrhosis.

BTW the affects of his liver disease are compounded by the continued alcohol abuse but you probably already know that...

dadams, you can find symptoms to look for on the groups webpage...mysickliver.com You might want to let your son know what to watch for and when to call for help.
